    1000k service

so this is my first time owning a brand new bike and she is booked in for her 1000k service on thursday at holeshot (so sadly will miss riding her onto taupo on friday) but what should i expect for my service?

is it just a lube change or more intensive like checking carb balance and valves?
how much should i expect to pay?

i must say the past 800 odd kms have flown past and im loving my new bike the reliability and exta power of having that extra cylinder is amazing.... never will i own a single again! (oh except for the CC Challenge!)

    What bike is it?

It should be just an oil and filter change and a quick check over

its an intruder 250 (v twin) so i am assuming basics and maybe a look at the carbs no more than $200?

we were quoted 180 for the first service of our new vl250, that was for a check up and oil check. they said most of the time it is pretty minor. I love my mums vl250, in fact i wanna take it out for a little spin now sneakily haha.

Oil change, and make sure everything is still secure and in its rightful place, you know, little important stuff. Congrads on getting to your first 1,000km service

Oil & filter. Then they will go over clutch adjustment check everything looks fine and test ride. Oh and lube and adjust the chain - they always do this even if you did it the night before

Allow say 1 hour labour (if applicable - Honda do not charge for labour on the first service) plus consumables (oil, filter).

    Smile 1000K service

Hi Fireball , good on you for getting the 250 Intruder, I had one two bikes back and it was a great bike to ride.
I picked up my new Suzuki VL800 C50T last Wednesday and was told that the 1000K service would be around the $300 mark. This was at Colemans in Auckland. I was abit suprised as being under warranty it seems abit steep.
However I'm loving the new style of ride after the more upright VL800 S50 had.Roll on Summer and the long Rides. :

Hey FB - Didnt know you got the new bike - but Congrats!!!!!

I just had the missus AN125 for its 1k service the other day at Holshots - was $180.

They may check valve clearances on your bike as well - so I would guess about $250 - $280. Best to call them directly to get a quote - Rob is normally fairly accurate.

Looking forward to seeing you out there on the road - you still heading along on Wednesdays?

yes a pity they charge so much for really one hours work....oil and filter is really only thing that needs changing....nothing else is needed nowdays..they are made to last .......and they won't look at carbs...generally stuff like these never get touched as factory settings stay all most a lifetime...

Cost me $180 when I had my VL250 done, they tightened every thing up again as well now that the bits have seated in. Found my M50z to be an interesting ride striaght after it's 1000km service, was a bit more racey, caught me by surprize for a moment, then was all good & fun

    Not a bad hourly rate

First service for our Vl250, total cost of materials $48.55, labour $170.00
I read through the breakdown of what they did, it was a "C" service, changed oil and filter, everything else is just check and lube.
How long should it take to do? Someone suggested about an hour, hour and a half tops, not a bad hourly rate if thats the case.

If anyone is charging for more than 1.5 hours on a first service I'd question what they are doing and check the muffler outlet for signs of sexual molestation!

Ohhh how the industry rapes its own . Nothings changed.

Im a foreman for a Ford / Mazda service centre and we perform a FREE service check at 3000kms or 3 months . It takes about 40 -50 mins to carry this out using a hoist and a senior tech checking approx 150 items per vehicle.
As its a car we dont change the oil or filter. (most have a service interval of at least 10.000k. Some 20.000Kms)

Putting it into a perspective there is say 4 litres of oil in a bike a filter and an hour or so labour .
If it went over $200.00 id be asking for a complete breakdown explanation as to what was done.

    Just my 2.1/2 cents worth
