Well done on the guy mate. You are lucky.

When I was trying a one piece leather suit at Motomail a month back, the owner of Motomail knocked my bike over, picked it up, said "I have to go" and that was it. I left contact details with the stuff at Motomail, together with receipts for the damage, but the bastard never called to even say Sorry. Needless to say so far they have lost about $2000 worth of business from me and heaps more in the future..

Dont want to hijack your thread and convert it into a bike shop bashing one, just mean to say you are very lucky to have encountered such a honest person. The world needs more people like that.

The thing that gets me ... This guy didn't pull a runner? + he contacted state insurance and arranged the claim. All I had to do was make a 2 calls and drop the bike off to Spectrum for an assessment.

Anyone else encountered honesty such as this?
Can't say I have. I have been honest myself but still waiting for Karma to come through for me.

I'm glad you received a good deal.

May be he's one of the very few people who know that his insurance wouldn't charge him an excess on this.

Yes, a guy backed into my bike in Blenheim- he had to walk right past it to get in his vehicle and then backed right into it and knocked it over.

When I came back there was an upright but scraped up gsxr (my baby!) with a note on it with contact details and an apology. Have to say the handwriting was very trembly. He probably thought some big biker guy was going to arrive and beat him up!

Sadly, after a good beginning he was not prepared to meet the actual costs of repairs, but did make a contribution.

You just claimed on your insurance? So he didn't pay anything?

There are still some nice people out there. Take me for example... I arrived at the office early last week and there was a parked car in our garage with its headlights still on. Knowing how annoying it would be at the end of a long hard day a work only to find your car won't start, I decided to save this persons battery and kicked in their headlights.

No, I decided to keep my no claims bonus and pay the difference myself. Everyone seems to know everyone in Blenheim and I just didn't think it was worth the hassle to push for the full amount. He paid $300 from memory.

I think we should count ourselves lucky that we are still fortunate enough to encounter such honesty in these days. We can only do our bit. Nothing good ever comes from doing a runner. I would always hope I would reward an honest person even though the mistake may be pretty horrific.

I had my old bike backed into and knocked over twice.
First time the wee Japanese girl left a note with the bike saying what she'd done and giving her contact details. She had no insurance but gave me the required $425 in cash the day the repair was done.

The second time was in a car park at a country cafe and the guy came in and found me to tell me.
