    Slipper clutches?

Just wondering what experience people have with them. My stock clutch is just starting to slip occasionally so I thought it could be a good excuse to upgrade .

I'm currently looking at either SuterClutch (http://www.suterclutch.com/) or STM (http://www.hmstm.com/).

Does anyone have experience with either or another brand? I'm leaning towards the SuterClutch as I can get it a bit cheaper, it sounds like a good product and I can buy from NZ.

Also how much of a difference do they really make to the riding experience? I'll be mostly riding fairly hard on the road, the odd track day and maybe occasional race. I'd want a substantial improvement for close to 2k investment.

    Appreciate any info.

I've ridden a few bikes with slipper clutches, mostly road bikes mind you. I've never noticed them working, which, I suppose is what they do, lol...

That said, I haven't noticed the slipper working on the SM yet. Probably mostly because I'm always fish-tailing because of the rear brake being very aggressive, lol...

I'm sure someone else will pipe in though...

Question is: Are you sliding it in everywhere or are you smooth?

At the moment I'm more smooth, sliding more on the gas exiting corners if anything.

I'd like to be able to back it in controllably. When I've tried it's been with limited success, tend to just get the rear hopping more often than not.

I do use engine breaking a lot so I guess a slipper would help with engine wear and tear too.

They're great. I have one on my 525 motard and you can chop down without the clutch and it does everything for you. I hardly ever do that on the road and I've never raced mine but on the odd occasion that I've tried it was very cool. Plus they're a lighter action than standard clutches as they run less springs.

So you've still got it then?

I thought you were trying to sell it? Quite a while back too...

Even getting rid of the hopping would be a good thing... It gets a bit nasty and distracting when bikes do that...

I changed my mind and kept it. Put s six speed in it and it's been great but I want something else now. Still going motard but perhaps something bigger and softer as I become gayer with age.

It's up for sale at the mo on trademe if anyone is interested....going for a steal.

I'm weighing up my options for next tard. 610SM husqy....640 KTM...something.

Well, Mikkel has the 610 Husky, so he'd be a good one to chat to. Was it Motomail that had the one in Aucks for $10k?

Don't the 640's have a five-speed box? Can you get a six-box for them too?

Yeah that's one option....I've talked to them prior to getting my KTM and they wouldn't budge on price. Doesn't matter how many ways you tell them that it may be brand new but it's an 06 and as soon as I walk out the door and ride it, it'll lose lots of money. If I go that route it will be a jump of faith but then I'm just that kind of mad bastard to do it. There's some nice 640s on trademe at the mo too including a nice blue one with complete akropovic system...snice!
