Arrow Keep the Rimutaka Summit Cafe alive - sign the petition!

I was up at the summit today and the cafe has re-opened, however the new owners are apparently fighting the council to stop them from demolishing both the cafe and toilets so they have a petition for people to sign to help them out.
The new people seem very friendly and want to make a go of it so if you're passing by or stopping up there, call in and sign the petition!!

Dont get me wrong I like the Taka cafe, but to keep it going it needs to be somthing more than a weekend biker stop, its got to have someting more than what it has had in the past, it needs someting for the Tourists, the food needs to be well above average, as with the coffee, I can get average every where, I dont need to go out of my way for it.
yep its a great place to stop on the Bike, how many bikers actualy buy some thing there?, what is there that a car full of people will stop for 2pm on a wednesday afternoon, when the rain is falling down side ways?.
What I am trying to say is you need a good reason for the Public to stop there, and then you need somthing special for them to go back again and again, it needs to become a destination of its own right, not a transient quick stop over.
On a good day the view is awsome, there must be some good history about the place, with old photos.

I find toilets are a good enough reason to stop there even without average or otherwise coffee Sucks that they weren't open.

If they're back relying on the WW2 generator up there they're screwed. The other issue that has plagued the place for years goes by the name of Harry.

I wish anyone that tries to make a go up there all the best of luck. Whoever they are they'll need it.

The Greater Wellington Regional Council has decided to demolish the Summit cafe and toilets. This matter has been running since 2005 with the license holder having been unsuccessful/unable to provide a business plan that could demonstrate that that venture would stand any chance of success. The number of operators in the Summit Cafe over that time is grim testimony to that. The facilities up there should be demolished by Christmas. The petition is pointless.

One can stick one's pie cart up one's bum.

A Fuel Coffee cart with attendant portaloo would be a goer though.

Or a fuel tanker with coffee to go & a topless attendant for the portaloo

Will be a sad day when they demolish the old cafe though, it has been there for ever.
The dunny was never open so no loss there
