I like your idea but the topless part of the equation needs to be implemented with care. A topless Fatjim doesn't bear thinking about.

Y'know, the one time I rode through there, it seemed like a pretty silly place to put a cafe.

There's not even much of a view to stop and look at. One hill looks much like the next hey.

So pies for the fat buggers, and coffee for all you overstressed IT cubicle dwellers, and you'd be minting it!!

its a shame theyre demolishing it.when i lived in Welly back in the eighties it was a must do for us on a saturday or sunday,a blast up the 'Takas and a feed at the top.The best people ever were Wally and Averil(wonder where they are now??)they used to always have a roaring fire going in winter and the food was "down home style"and good value.(no espresso coffee tho,it was filter)

over the years i have travelled over there countless times even tho i now live in the mainland i still go over there at least ten times a year and i have seen the slow decline of the place.I think it has been given lots of chances to be successful but the geography, power issues and lots of other factors seem to have conspired against it.

It will be a shame to see it go,it wont feel right to go "round the corner"at the top instead of stopping for a coffee.

maybe i will pop over there soon for a last look at the place.sniff.

The cafe at the top top of the takas many years back did a good trade it almost took a car an hour from Upper hutt to the top and most were ready for a stop, the days when a fast car could do 45 miles an hour and needed a tune up before taking off from Lower Hutt, and a fast bike 100mph..Come the Tauherenikau race days you could never stop at the top unless u were lucky, as the area was full of cars and people

    I agree.
I can remember in the 50s as a kid the carpark full of overheating cars, the toilets smelly and always full, and the very limited food choice in the cafe. The last time I stopped there a few years ago apart from the overheating cars nothing had changed.
