    2005-2007 Speed Triple comparo

    Hi all,

Does anyone have an 05-07 Triumph Speed Triple I can compare my bike to? Specifically I am trying to ascertain whether or not my engine is making a weird ticking noise or if it is running like it should. I know I could go to the dealers but this is something I'd like to get a handle of myself (initially). So if you can help send me a PM (much appreciated in advance!)

    Cheers,

    Lance

Hi Lance, I have a late model 07 Speedy (sold as an 08 model). No engine ticking noise experienced to date and I have done about 5k kms on it. triumphrat.net is a good place to go for a broader comparison from the many triple owners there. Good luck getting it sorted.

I've had 3 and they all made noises you couldn't quite trace. By the way they do sound like a bag of bolts on startup, unless you are losing oil, blowing smoke or have a serious knock or rumble I wouldn't really be to concerned, They aren't the quietest engine on the planet.

Is it better / worse when cold / warmed up? More noticeable accelerating / decelarating or at a particular rev range?

Yeah mine is an 05 and a little noiisy. Noticable more when hot and it sounds a bit like a header leak, but I've checked and it's not. Clutch also has a rumble, but hey, they're just noises.
It doesn't use a drop of oil between changes, so I'm not too concerned. Mine is off to TripleFourensics this weekend for it's 20,000km service, so I'll post back after the 22nd and let you know if anything out of the ordinary is found.

break out the stethescope or a friendly mech should have one and have a listen ! But they all start making lil noises as they loossen up !
They have some sort of flapper in the rocker box that can sometimes fool ya my 955 has one that annoys the hell out of me at 2500 revs !

While there is a thead that Speed 3 guys will be lookin at (sorry for the hijack Lance) Do any know of some clip ons for a 955 or spare plastics, fairing that i could adapt to fit etc ?
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

i fitted a Mivv titanium GP exhaust to mine, made all the weird noises go away.

when can you hear the noise? when i first got mine i thought all the valves had dropped out as it was pinking its head off under load. turned out it was the chain needing cleaning and a lube, every 500ish ks!

My Tiger has a very noticeable tick on start up, then vanishes once the oil pressure rises. I've been told to monitor it and see if it gets worse, unlikely to be major though.

Give Kerry an email or call here www.triplefourensics.co.nz he's a Triumph expert and a damn good bloke. He'll put your mind at rest.
