The BRONZ article in this months KR re quotas and Police KPIs makes some valid points very well.

I'll have it available for download in the bike mart later tonight.

Let me add - that the tenet is that the Police should be trusted to do the job not a formula.

Yes, very good.

The logic about measuring the desired outcome, not the number of tickets is hard to fault.

However what is needed is more than only one measure as well. Perhaps a combo of both of these methods for individual officers.

This does go to explain why there appears to be little to no interest shown about other bad driving practices including tail gating, red light running, and failure to keep left. One could agruge that these fall into the high-risk driving category, but if that is the case, then it isn't showing up in the real world.

Informative, incisive AND entertaining. (Or should I make that "intertaining", so I have three "I's"?)
I wish it would make a difference, but we all know the bureaucrats don't operate on commonsense or logic. [sigh]

While I think of it (and because I'm too lazy to start another thread) [damn - too much caffeine = keyboard dyslexia and much retyping and correcting, not that you'd notice...]
My son (yes, #2 Son, the Troubled And Troublesome One) was bleating to me last night about getting pulled over in a routine/not-so-routine checkpoint t'other day. He had no beef with that, handed over his licence, etc etc. But what REALLY got up his nose was he was on his way to work (at 10:30am, coz he's a feckless yoof and stays up all night playing games

) and he was subjected to a barrage of questions, viz:
"Where are you going? Where have you come from? What do you do for a living? etc. etc."
He was tempted to say, "How is that relevant? What business is it of yours?", but having had a Close Encounter of the Constabulary, Handcuffing and Being Thrown in a Cell Kind just a mere 12 months ago, he was understandably reluctant to Poke Piggy With a Stick, if you see what I mean.

I agreed with him, and can understand his annoyance. WTF business is it of the Police where he's going, what he's doing, if he's minding his own business and not doing anything to warrant suspicion or investigation?
I said, "Maybe the constabule was bored, and just passing the time...?"
"So fucking what! Doesn't mean I've got time to piss around answering stupid questions!"

Maybe said Constabyoool had a quote of Stupid Question Asking to meet...

Maybe Vifferman, your youngster was grilled because he falls into the category of 'stupid young driver'. Hmmmm, but then of course because of a few 'stupid young drivers', I guess all the rest get the label too! Whether they are well behaved (or in your sons case, learnt his lesson) or not, means nothing to the officers.

Both my kids are now in there late 20's and finally they have stopped pulling them over for, 'routine checks'.

I am (censored) years old and was recently pulled over for a "routine check"...but when I took the helmet off and oshiffer saw the grizzled old bugger beneath he did not pull any interrogation.......but he did check my licence reg and warrant before he shuffled off into the breeze......

Totally agree with the principle behind the thread. I came home from a holiday in the Bay of Islands one weekend. Saw four cops and speed camera vehicles at the end of overtaking lanes and yet when I got to the Dome Valley where there is a huge sign sponsored by the NZ Police saying "DANGER; KNOWN ACCIDENT AREA" did I see one cop there policing the area to keep it safe? Not F...ing likely.

They hide behind this facade they call safety which pulls in the dollaros. If I saw them out policing ALL areas of safety related issues, I wouldn't have such an issue but they are never out there pulling over the slow driver who causes all the frustration on our crap narrow roads nor the drivers who drive at 10-20kph below the speed limit in the RH lane.
