In my opinion, if your bike isn't the same as when it came from the factory (ie.. you haven't changed parts or modded) then don't take it to VTNZ or AA for WOF.

Yep. If your bike isn't showroom condition, I wouldn't recommend any 'official' places. I recommend Atomic Bike Wreckers on Barry's Point Rd

Thats where i would have gone but was running late. Sorted my flashers and stuck a reflector under the back plate. Off tomorrow to get it re-checked

I was lucky some years ago in Napier - thank God VTNZ didn't know what they were doing - they said they don't do many bikes - I had grooved slicks on that had "Do not use on Highway" of whatever - I had forgotten completely about them and was chatting away to the guy when I looked down at the tyres and saw the message clearly - I kept chatting lol. Think they may have been more interested in a "girl riding a big bike". Couldn't wait to get out of there - it passed. Bike passed with a broken clutch lever too - in that the tail end had snapped off.

I now stick with motorbike shops. Have yet to find a shop that will fix my indicators properly tho.

never had a problem with the guys at northwood vtnz they don't stress too much and tell you if it needs fixing before next wof. took an old cbr400 aero into get a wof at cranford street, had no rear fender, chain guard and aftermarket pipe. They admitted they didn't get bikes in very often and they asked me to do the brake tests, ie ride at semi speed towards them and brake, I knew my brakes worked glad they had faith too

Well you not doing mine thank you very much (or words to that effect), got my money back and learnt never to go to cage orientated places ever again.
Meh, they test my wheelbearings/steering head bearings like that all the time, never had any problem.
Besides, makes for a quicker turnaround time for the WOF.

I went to Upper Hutt and they made me do the brake test as well, and then hold the bike on the stand so the could look at the brakes. Got out of there pretty quick and thinking how easy it was.

Really it depends on the guy and how pedantic they are - cause there is one guy at UH that failed the step sons car - for loads of things including stickers on the rear window. When we took it for a retest the lady just shook her head at the list of faults.

Yer, i've noticed this alot lately, when i head off to the AA the ask what cc it is, only 1 of the guys has his full license, so if its over 250 and hes not on i do the show the brakes work thing, often do it on the 250's anyway for ease
