Hi all, his name was Ryan and he was indeed an apprentice mechanic at haldanes. I only meet him recently but had the pleasure of a couple of rides to the pub at Kaiaua with him and the drags at meremere. A genuinely helpful and cheerful young guy, and he could really ride the wheels off his dad's v-max. RIP young fella.![]()
Always sad to hear ....
R.I.P ...Young Fella
His name was Reinhardt Marais (also known as Ryan). My partner and I were fortunate to have meet him, his best mate John and his partner Danielle about three months ago. I called them the "Three Musketeers" they did almost everything together.
He was the apprentice at Haldanes and would do anything to help out anyone in need. You may have seen him at Meremere 7th November 2008 on a black Vmax. He truly will be missed.
Condolences to his family, John and Danielle. RIP Ryan
This is all too sad. Another young person killed.
St Asaph Street on Tuesday, 04.30PM. Two idiots on a Chinese scooter, no helmets, feet off the pegs. Ropeheads, which tells me that they are sort of different. The Asian girl without a helmet on another Chinese death-trap.
I just don't bloody-well get it. I'm an old, ugly Cnut, and they are young, pretty, immortal, live for the moment, and sort of clueless if you know what I mean.
But no better than the clowns on their pushbikes doing 70kph down Dyers Pass Road with only .003 mm of lycra between their pretty-boy/pretty-girl skins and the harsh freakin' reality of "Oh F*ck, that really hurts" when they can-off.
Where I work, last week, they turned off the life support on a guy in the company who wiped out on his pushbike. Helmet was on the handlebars. He had done 40 something years so should have had another 20 plus years on a generous superannuation scheme to get him by.
It ain't no use there, on the handlebars, I'm sorry to say. All I'm trying to say is that no-one expects to crash or be blind-sided, but SHIT HAPPENS, ALL THE TIME, when you least expect it.
The fact is that this young man probably had more riding experience than most middle aged 'pros' or you other 'moto GP' ego monsters, he was a NZ junior championship motoXer with more ride time than most would like to have.
FACT : the bus is big and the fat lazy wanker turning the wheel doesnt indicate, nor does he open his half blind eyes (from years of masturbation he is blind), and turns into the path of a motorcycle that doesnt even have time to brake or swerve.........need I say more
RIP my brother from another mother
You may have seen him at Meremere 7th November 2008 on a black Vmax.
Yeah I met him that Night...
He was doin some awesome times on that Vmax...Had the tyre well deflated...
Wouldnt of picked him for 18yrs old...Thought he was older..
Rip dude....Hoping theres a New 2008 VMax waiting for up up there with Endless Fuel/Tyres and clean roads....
Crazy Steve.
R.I.P
My thoughts are with you and your family
Very sadly, according to some stats I read on the news last night total motorcyclists killed last year was 41. I think they said (?) in 2004 it was 28 - so that is a hell of a jump.
Car passenger / driver deaths have decreased whilst Motorcyclists killed has increased.
It would be good to find some stats on cause of crash to identify those most at risk (ie. another vehicle involved, rider error, rider age, type / capacity of bike, rider license type, time of day, type of road etc....)
I don't know how many motorcycles are registered whether that supports all of the increase in fatalities (given the rise in fuel prices no doubtedly causing more people to ride bikes) or whether car drivers are more reckless (given all their advanced controls - like ABS - so we brake later and more recklessly, traction control - so we go into corners too quickly) etc...
