New road seal on Brookby hill

Went for a rather pleasant (if a tad chilly) ride out to Maraetai tonight and decided to come back home over the Brookby hill for a bit of fun. (Well, it's my idea of fun even if it's not quite up to the "fun factor" of others ). Snort, darned fresh seal in several places, mainly on the Clevedon side, with lashings of that lovely gravelly stuff. Now what's it called again? oh yeah, gravel. Mmmm mmmmm. At least it wasn't pot holes and deep gravel, but still the strewn and scattered type which can suddenly appear just round that corner.

There were a few new patches on the side from Brookby too, but the worst ones were in the Clevedon to Brookby lane. The downhill side wasn't too bad...

Apart from that it was great to get out for a bracing ride, midges committing suicide on my visor, tips of my index fingers starting to ice up, but still lovely.
I lahk to moove eet moove eet...

Yeah there were a few spots of funny road surfaces out that way today. It's been ages since I've gone down to Kaiaua, funny seeing that traffic-light setup at Kawakawa Bay.

The Hunuas were as lovely a surface as I've ever seen them, I swear they designed them for my bike. Especially going uphill, it's just a joy.

You know, I've been past that quarry so many times (see pics), but what are the big pipes for? Do they send the rocks down with water or something?

It took the fun out of the commute this morning. There are a few patches right in to Papakura and lots of it through the Hunua Gorge. Looks like the road crew is working the whole area.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

Yes the road sealing season and maintenance has begun in force. Look out for where they mark out with paint (hopefully) and watch that space for the rest of the summer, you may come round the corner one day and find it has been re-sealed. I travel between Rotorua and Tauranga on a regular basis and I still find surprises from one day to the next.
Sadly this doesn’t work if you haven’t been down the road for a while and there are no signs warning you of the works.
I may be slow at getting things but..... no wait I'm just slow.
