    Rocket fuel for a C50T!

    Rocket fuel!!!!

    We've just got back from a weekend away. Had a great ride down, out through Clevedon and down the Firth coast, stopping as is oligatory at Kaiaua for their "world famous" fish and chips! Our friends met us in Paeroa on their '96 Bandit 1200S and led us to their new place in Matamata. (So just figure on a great ride through some twisties, some native bushland and a coastal run in glorious sunshine for about four hours!)

    Anyways. I have been running the bike on 95 octane and noticed an improvement over the 91, but on the way back today we stopped as usual at the BP Bombay, and I topped up with 8.63lt of 98, so a bit more than half the 15lt a tank...

    The bike LOVED IT!!!! The motorway home, about 45min worth, was a blast, traffic wasn't bad, but I split and passed left and right, (always indicating and checking first!), and accelerated with gay abandon! (Oops!).

    After the last burst of speed at the end of the motorway before Orewa, (just to get past that blue car that I KNEW would slow down, you understand...) my wife, who had been quiet for most of the way from Bombay, said, "Happy now?" (I thought the intercom had died...)

    As I swung around the roundabout, not quite scraping the boards, I said, "Yup!"

    Now I'm definitely going to try a full tank of 98!

    I find the same on my bike.. 98 is great.. 95 no difference.

    However.. I believe I got a noticable reduction in km I get per tank when on 98.

    May just be me but it was enough that I started using 91 again.

    Sounds like a great ride Edbear.

    I have often thought about filling up with 98 but being of scottish decent I just cant bring myself to pay the few cents a tank more it would cost.

    by the way, I'd abandon the gay stuff too

    hymm i always find i get more bang for my buck when on 98

    plastic fabricator/welder here if you need a hand ! will work for beer/bourbon/booze

    I'm getting more Scottish as I get older, it was the expectation of better mileage that convinced me to try it...

    Yeah was a good trip! We're going for a week's cruising starting Xmas day, the Coro is on the menu as is Miranda Holiday Park.

    Took the bike in to Bikesport this evening for its service, I'd gassed up with 91 again last night and only 9.8lt but the bike ran sweet-as today. Rode from work in Taka to Helensville via Coatesville and Old Nth Rd. Had a ball, only scraped the boards twice...

    Matthew gave me an ex demo Bandit 1250S to use. Only 2200km on it. I've posted an impression on it.

    Assuming your on the "Good Boys List" that is.

    Tried a tank of 98 when i ran my bike down to reserve. The first day out riding after the tank didnt yield difference in feeling, but after that on the second day onwards til now the bike seems to be a lot happier to spend time in the higher revs.

    It just seemed to have a little more get up than go than normal. Which is nice. I think its well worth the 34c extra per tank. Dont know if the mileage is affected or not will see when i run this tank down. But all good so far.

    If your bike will run on 91, then that's the best bet. However, 98 is better quality fuel than 95, as the 95 is just 91 with more crap (toluene and xylene = paintbrush cleaner ) in it, whereas the 98 is (allegedly) imported from Australia already refined.
    My VFR750 wouldn't run on 95 - after a very short time the tiny electrodes on the sparking plugs would be sooted up.
    On the VFR800, I was running 98 when I had the ignition advanced on the PCII (high revs, big throttle), but it runs best on 91.
    The wife's Pugglyot can't use 91 (pinks badly) and runs best on 98. The 95 is kinda variable quality.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.


    Or maybe not...

    ahh that would explain why i didnt feel a heap of difference between 91 and 95, I'm unsure if my bike was ever running on 91. I dont know what the bike shop pu t in the first tank. Might try a tank of 91 at some stage but for the sake of 34c - 44c per tank i dont really see the savings of running 91.
