Mr Whippy - and speed cameras.

I was talking to a mate who is a copper (and a good bastard) and he commented that there was 'talk' that this summer they were going to use Mr Whippy vans and the like as plain clothes police cars.

I though he was talking shit - but googled it and sure enough they have done it before (Yep - the story went International):

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...-disguise.html

"Mr Whippy? No, I'm a speed cop in disguise

Police in New Zealand, frustrated by a rural "grapevine" that tips off drunken drivers whenever checkpoints are set up, are taking to the roads in ice cream vans playing Greensleeves.

The ruse was admitted yesterday by officers in the rolling countryside of the central North Island."

So boys and girls - you have been warned ...

So, what you are saying is that Mr Whippy vans could be dangerous?
    Bastards.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

They're dangerous enough now. I mean what sort of man actively seeks employment selling ice creams to little kiddies? I won't even mention the calories.

Do they expect someone to stop for a mr whippy van with a little portolight on its roof? lmao If I see one of these Mr.Wippy vans with suspect looking coppers it I'll make sure to bug them for an hour demanding a soft serve.
But seriously though, if they're doing it for an anti drink driving campaign then good on 'em

So if you see an icecream van surrounded by a mob of disappointed, crying children, you'll know it's a trap.

Or are they actually going to sell icecreams, to improve the disguise

    Yeah, I wondered that.
Uh oh - imagination's kicked in again...hmmm... Mr Whippy truck, chasing after miscreant speeders, Greensleeves blaring, icecream cones flying out the serving hatch, hundreds'n'thousands and softserve dribbling out the back...
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

Well, yes, you have a point. Like, you can never be sure what a magician really has in his pocket...

Did you know Mr Whippy has been going in NZ since 1964?

They started a franchise model in 1989 and its been sucessful. They tried to take it International, but never got out of backwater NZ.
