I do know what you mean, I used to work in hospitality as well, at a bar in town, and have met all sorts of people,, combination of bar, town, plus weekends creates a lot of fucked up people. whenever I came accross people like what you descriped I was told by my boss to talk to them and let them know clearly of what is going on and the msg that you want to pass on- before you have to take a further action. because there is no reason to give the place the bad name cuz of mis understanding -IF there was one. Way I see it the bar didnt have to worry about losing customers the bar was packed every night and even if a customer got kicked out they still wanted to come back. because it was where everyone was hanging out. but the bar did care about it -unless the customer was complete maniac. Getting a "clear" msg accross to a drunken ass is not easy if not impossible, but it works. Worked there for around half a year but never had to say fuck off to a customer personally. but yea thats just me.

yea seller did know a guy at PBT Ch Ch. and tristan (PBT Auckland) did tell me they dont specialise in motorbikes..

I'm assuming the buy on trademe was for the bike. And not bike delivered. Once you own the bike where ever it's parked insurance seems like a logical step. (Unless you planned to never insure the bike). If i was getting a bike transported I would make sure it was insured first.

With that done and dusted I'd be interested in knowing how the bike was sent. You say it was well tied down but clearly it wasn't or it would have arrived well tied down.

Personally I can't comprehend ever sending a bike by general freight, they're just not geared for it. Was PBT the seller's choice or just a cheaper option offered up to save you cash.

It's a bit of a pity about the bike and hopefully PBT come to the party. I can imagine you're pretty pissed about all of this but pissed doesn't get things sorted. Like someone said it looks like the bike was laid in with the soft stuff and expected to make the trip to Auck's. If the seller knows the guy in PBT then getting a clear answer on how it was shipped could be a problem.

I think getting the bike sent to the bike shop direct was a good move because you have an independant opinion on the state of packaging. You do fall in a bit of a hole though in terms of who has a problem. Without your insurance you are limited to what someone else will pay. As I see it you have no claim with PBT because the seller hired them. If it was your bike before departure you should have been dealing with this. So you're in a bit of a grey area. The seller probably has to make any claims with PBT at a guess. This means you may be needing to go to MVDT if PBT don't get it sorted. Your claim will be against the seller in all likelyhood. Emails and what was agreed with the seller may become real important to you. All carriers get people to sign forms that limit their liability. So PBT have a limited liability to the seller.

At the end of the day while you're pissed at everyone else it seems there are a few lessons in here for you to learn from and I know it's hindsight but using a motorcycle transporter that you paid for, or insuring the bike as soon as you took ownership would be steps that most of us would take.

Good luck with getting the whole thing sorted and I really hope PBT come to the party.

Bikers are a damned helpful lot. I was down country in the weekend with a tyre problem. I got offers of accommodation for the night, food, loan trailer, bike storage and in the end none were needed because a bike shop owner came out on a Sunday to open his shop and replace my tyre. Top bloke that Mark at Ericksen Honda in Bay View, Napier. (And it was he and his wifes 29th wedding anniversary that day). He mentions he never leaves a biker stranded and has even come out on Christmas day. I also have a bunch of new biker friends.

As a last comment this whole thing could well turn to real shit for you. Keep a detailed diary of who, what where and when going forward and record as much as possible going back. When you do record stuff keep the emotional language out. You could well need this at MVDT. Things like the time and date you arrived at Holeshot, who was there with you and what you both saw. You are going to possibly need statements from the guy at Holeshot. Who did you meet at PBT etc, phone calls, emails. Assume that this is going South big time and take notes accordingly.

Just out of curiosity are these crates stacked on top of each other, because if they are then i would have to wonder if the bike was ever tied down with the bike upright.

Sorry to Hijack Thread, but i have known Mark Ericksen for years and he's a bloody great guy, did you meet up with any of the HB riders?

No, we met none of the HB riders, it was Sunday and fine. I don't know what it was but there was a distinct lack of bikes in Napier. I mentioned it to Mark and he'd noticed it that day. He reckoned the place was normally packed with bikes. Because I'd put my bike in the "not wise to ride" category it got parked up later Saturday and we just walked around town.

The locals were pretty taken with my led lighting though. I got comments pretty much everywhere we stopped on Saturday night from young kids to ladies and guys well into retirement. My bike has a distinct blue glow around the engine, front wheel, rear wheel and on the road around the bike. It's my version of a high viz vest and no-one misses me at night.

I'll be back and there'll be a couple of riders I'll call in and see. One has a garage with a lot of interesting bikes.

We had a neat, adventure packed weekend. And even though rain was forecast for Sunday we didn't see any till just north of Taupiri on SH1.

I assume that's home for you. What a neat place to live.

i think i saw your bike around at somestage, the LED thing is something i always wanted to do but never got around to, then the bike got sold....

My sons bike is being moved by Captain Transporter
Stright away they asked and advised me on insurance. told me to bring the bike in and watch it get packed, They seem very helpfull.

An amazing thread.

Last year I had my new bike shipped from LA by Kiwishipping. They are a specialist motor vehicle shipping company. Their service was excellent, but I still had the bike insured all of the way.

I cannot understand how anyone would take ownership of a new vehicle without having full insurance from the second it become their personal responsibility.

It would be nice to hear the outcome of this saga.

It took me just under 2 years to settle this matter. at the end every party ended up in court and I won. got the full amount paid I demanded. bike fixed. now sold to loving new owner. Thanks everyone for the supports. YAY!

Man, I just read every single post in this thread, half way through I noticed it was from a couple of years back and I was dreading that it seemed to be one where you never find out what happens! Bloody magnificent it was resolved in the end with you coming out on top! Really made my night!
