Aprilia RS125s?

Seeing a few of them on tardme. They look pretty nice and I figure they must go pretty hard around the tight stuff as well. Anyone have any experience with them? Know what they're like power wise and maintenance/reliability? Are they anything comparable to Honda RS 125 track bikes? Think a 70kg guy would be a bit heavy on it?

The aprillia rs 125 is a road bike where the honda rs 125 is a pure breed race bike so they are a long way apart.
AFAIK the aprillia is regarded as the best of the road going 125's in the power and handling department and as far as reliability goes its a 2 stroke so it will need a top end rebuild at some point but if its cared for and run on a good quality 2 stroke oil the rebuilds will be few and far between.
They are a lovely looking bike and are look very like their 125 gp bikes.
Depends on what year your looking at aswell because they came with different engines eg. 121, 122 I think

Yea I'm looking at the road bikes. So they detuned from the race version with a different chassis and suspension or a completely different bike?

You can't "detune" a gp bike and then put it on the road. It will still need new crank every 1500km and pistons every 500km. The aprilia RS125 is as close to the GP bike as a toyota camry is to the toyota f1 car.

Nice bike for the road but its just a commuter bike. Nothing more than that. They race them in europe quite a bit (probably similar to our streetstock) as a step before 125GP.

Well there a pretty top 125 road bike in the sence that its pretty much the nearest thing to a legal road going race bike and some people do race them. Have a look around at some reviews of them to see if its what your looking for because 2 stroke road bikes arent as flexible as a 4 stroke so they take more involvement to ride quick but if this is what your looking for then go for it. And no 70kgs wouldnt be too heavy on one.

Ive had an RS125 road bike for four years, Bought it brand new, it is the second one sold new in NZ.
Ive done 12,000km on it & loved most of them.
Im 87kg & find thats not really a handicap, you can just chuck it in to corners & have to make a concious effort not to brake, & while it likes you to hang off it a bit you must keep your knee in against the tank, or it will slow down.
Its physically bigger all over than my mates 749s apart from the wheelbase, the Ducati is about 30mm longer from memory.
I tend not to ride it on windy days because you will have a great trip out somewhere at 140km & end up wringing its neck to get home at 110 if the wind is against you.

I fully agree with that. I actually bought mine to put on the wall in the lounge, but started using it. it still ends up in the lounge for decoration tho.

So making sure to get tucked in under the fairing sounds important. Can you get a pretty decent angle out of them? What kms do you get between rebuilds?

I did piston & rings a 9000km, apparently it will need a barrell & piston assy at about 18k, but with several other bikes to ride, that will take a while for me now.
Dont go to your Aprilia dealer for such stuff, There are thousands of them in the UK & heaps of guys eager to send the stuff on your credit card.
P.S DONT EVER go near a Polini 154 bore kit for one. Mine gave it the powerband of a GN250 & i was relieved when it seized within 70km of fitting it so i could go back to the fun of the 125. apparently they all do that. A quick lesson in how to burn $1200.
They seem to dislike the wind more than weight, so getting tucked in is the best way to make them fly.
It also dosent play well with others. Riding with guys on lazy 1000s is a pain in the arse. You need to be doing say 124kmh in a certian place to get the best out of the motor/ gearbox, but lazy 1000 is happy at 120k, so you have to drift past or loose all your drive. I explain before a ride what that is all about so it dosent seem drippy.
As far as lean angle goes, you will pack your undies long before it touches anything down, or behaves any differently to when it is standing up.

Not sure. I got emotionally involved with them when i worked in Singapore. I could have landed one the same as mine for $7000, but at the time i wouldnt have been able to register it due to the "statement of compliance" issue, so paid $10750 & got the worst service possible from a NZ dealer.

Yup, theyre only interested in whats in your pants. . . . No, your wallett you sicko. & they really dont mind if you dont get your bike, Or Polini big bore kit either for that matter.
