I'm yet to see anyone open their door on the motorway.
So I don't consider it a great threat...

Only has to happen once >_>

    ---

I agree that the bloke has a point, the odd motorcyclist tends to lane split at a bit of pace, and I know this because i'm one of them and commute with alot of other riders doing the same speed or faster.

The average cager doesn't expect there to be a 'third lane' right between the middle of his lane and the one to his left/right. So doesn't look for it. A head check is somewhat useless in this situation because the bike will come up very quickly, and this is where the magic of using your mirrors comes in.. even your left mirror! See a single shining headlight between a row of cars, i'd say it's better to watch him for a few seconds and see how fast he's going.

But hell, I don't even have a car license and have never driven a car.. so I have no clue what their situational awareness is, just relying on good ol' fashioned logic here.

    ---

But really, Ixion probably made point, case and end as early as post 3.

If the cager's indicating for 3 seconds, the biker should be able to look after himself if he isn't an idiot.

Maha used to do a commute from Auckland to Warkworth on a Friday night. He rang me one evening, stopped on the Newmarket flyover. The car in front of him had the drivers and rear passengers door open and there was a chick taking a piss on the road between them right in front of him. Stranger things may never happen, but doors do get opened for all sorts of reasons

The true absurdity is that you can have off-ramps leading off to the right of NZ motorways.
It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

My former post may have been ambiguous. However, I did neither imply that there was no such thing in NZ nor did I mean to suggest that any of the posters had gotten left confused with right.

I merely mused at the absurdity of referring such constructions as motorways, that's all.

As a matter of fact we have an on-ramp merging from the right-hand side on the Northern "Motorway" leading out of Christchurch. To be diplomatic I'll call it an interesting solution.
