    Thumbs up Astronomical!!

    Dude,

What a quack-up. The odds on actually running over a low flying duck (assuming he's going at about 20-30km/h) with a 150mm wheel must be just out of this world. Buy a Lotto ticket now!!!

Way back when, the family was driving along the Hauraki plains at night headed towards Paeroa in the clunky Morrie 1100 when we hit a duck. No light to clean it up so we drove to a gas station at Paeroa by which time half it had cooked on the block!! Nicely sliced after going through the grill/radiator vane combo too.

That duck was Sir Francis, the mate of Daphne who was shot at the Gulf Harbour golf club. He committed autocide.
He just ddn't want to live without her.

thing is, did the duck learn a lesson from this? Is it doing to do it again...??? Lets hope not.
Shame on the bin too. That sux big time. Least the bike slid instead of highsiding and going over and over..

On a related note, a lot of us seem to be binning (k, not always human error, like this..) but can we be more careful, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? Just hate thinking that I'm next for one, or the next one is worse.. keep it real

Hey all - thanks for the sympathy and concern aye, I'm glad I found this wee community!

I'm definitly fine, no pain no sore neck or anything (i've had the delayed whiplash before from being rear-ended so yeah I know not to be macho about it!)

Plus there was no real impact to me, just lots of sliding and the gear took care of that (thankfully). Recalling the recent discussions on gloves and gear....jeezus anyone who wants to be convinced of the value of proper gear i will tell you all about it until you're sold!

I was kinda feeling bad and stupid for binning it yesterday but i spose it wasn't *really* my fault....hope insurance agrees if I decide to claim!

I was actually thinking along the same lines Krayy - what the fuk are the chances???? Then again, life is all chance, you can't get too much into the "what if I had left 5 mins later, what if I'd gone 5 k's faster or slower...."

I start thinking like that sometimes, but it'll drive ya nuts!

This morning sucked...nice sunny morning and I'm caging my way to work....lane splitting is much harder in the Legnum!

    eek Bird Strike

Hey sorry to hear about your 'mallard'ramatic bin! Damm kamikazi duck. Was shitey bad luck, but glad to know you are ok and bike repairable.

My partner got taken out by a duck in the chest. Sent him flying off his bike and where he landed badly winded. He was checking himself over for damage and looked over to see the duck doing the same! It gave him a quack as if to say 'fucking look where you're going next time' and flew off rather unsteadily. He ended up having to push his bent bike home.

Any advance on a stoat anyone? Let's try to find the largest animal that someones taken out on a bike (and walked away from). I'd be mighty impressed if we get past somehting the size of a Shetland Pony.

anyone seen that clip from Lil' Mad Cow DVD (biker stuff) where the guy has the cam mounted to the side of the bike following someone else. All's going well, until you see one frame of a deers face in front of the cam, then it's all over rover.. can't find a working link to it, but I'll try. It's a good clip..

lets say that duck's gene pool will no longer be in circularation. So eventually all ducks will learn to avoide motorcycles.... or that the ones that don't will not be around.

We need to talk to Igor about that one - somewhere he has posted photos of when his mate took out a sheep, didn't crash, just kept going, photos are sometime later with sheep parts still embedded in the bike.Hitting a stoat would be very rare, you hardly ever see the little buggers, let alone run one over.Ducks are unpredictable - they fly slow, but low and often change direction...slowly,I've had some close calls, but no hits yet.

I hit a sparrow dead on with my wind screen at 100km/h a while back. Cracked the screen in two. Hitting a DUCK would be another story.
