If a workshop is part of a group like MTA then there is an obligation to test a vehicle sometimes prior to but normally after work has been carried out. Our test route is just over 3.5 kms long.
The reason is to find faults. A vehicle in for a general sceduled service can sometimes be hiding a fault that only a trained tech can find or detect.
If a vehicle goes out of the workshop without an obvious fault being found because it was not tested , then if that fault causes an accident or mechanical malfunction the workshop is held responsible by the authorities.
If you do not want your vehicle test riden / driven then you must state that when you drop it off and you may be asked to sign a waiver to cover the workshop from liability if a problem occurs later.
I see more damage issues caused by customers taking a loan vehicle for a day than i do with techs damaging customers vehicles. Some techs may just want to thrash the latest and fastest i know , but its rare as the practice is not favoured by savvy managment and a thrasher cant help but brag about a good hoon so is soon caught out.

Havin' some bad luck with the Honda's huh mentalfacility...........not test the bike after a service tho'.......corse' they have to test it, that's why you send it to a trained professional, anything less would be almost criminally irresponsible and frankly a bit of a rip off.
Find it hard to believe anyone would believe a test ride is unnecessary.

How much damage has been done to the bike? Isnt it normally a matter if a two week old bike was damaged your insurance company would replace it? With replacement fairings, exhaust etc as mentioned think I'd be asking for a brand new one. Anyone else?

As in a new bike? I doubt that. When my GSX250 go fairing damage after being tip over by some kids I understood from the bike shop that insurance companies will only fix or replace damaged parts unless the bike is a write-off.

I know some insurance companies will replace a brand new bike with another brand spanker inside first year of ownership. Its why sometimes you see near new bikes written off. Its not just the cost of the repair, the policy is too replace the bike.

As some may know, about 2 weeks ago I got a new bike from Botany Honda after my old CBR was proven to burn oil (Piston rings were the issue).

Anyway, this morning I brought her in for the first service, and around 11am I got a call. At first I thought they are to tell me that the bike is ready for pick up , but instead Danny told me that she got herself in to a crashed.(((

While John (their senior mechanic) took her out for a test ride, to check if the service was done properly , some truck driver reversed in the bike. Luckily John managed to jump of the bike just in time, so he didn't get hurt.

This afternoon I came by to look at the damage. The front fairings and one of the mirrors have to be replaced, the exhoust cover is scratched, my Vertex right foot rest is scratched and the frame slider is a bit damaged.

Luckily they got all parts in place for the refitting from the bike that suffered oil issues. Truck driver took responsibility for the accident so now its all insurance games, I actually don’t have to do a thing, Botany Honda is sorting it all out.

It almost seems that that bloody bike is cursed. First oil, now this.... Anyway, everything should be alright... Shit happens, I actually feel sorry for Botany Honda stuff on this one, it was not their fault at all, but now they got to waste their time and energy to sort it all out.

Meanwhile I've been given a new CBR600RR to ride around.

Botany Honda will sort it out man, those guys are tops. They ACTUALLY give a shit, unlike many other bike shops. Colemans ahve always been good to me too.

Even if its a repaired bike , you do have the rite to inspect at handover time to see if the bike is to your satisfaction. Most policies have a clause saying something like " replacement condition "which means if its not as good a condition as the original was prior to the accident then you can demand it be made so.

Good luck with the bike and it sounds like the shop has got on top of it for you anyway. Good on them.

My bike is a nightmare, but not cursed itself. I've worked out I'm cursed and can only have a good girl or a good bike in my life. Now the girl is gone, the VFR should be sweet.
