And that is why it particularly baffled me when you said the most part of riding is being home safe and sound, I mean, sure. It's bloody nice to be home and still in one piece. But I don't think on any occasion i've thought to myself that getting home is what's riding's all about..

Arriving at my destination is the most important part. It has the highest priority. Having fun along the way is secondary.

In fact thinking about this, I have never really enjoyed going for a ride for no particular reason. (maybe this is why some people feel the need to go riding in a group of friends if just going for a ride??) I usually need a reason to ride. Either going into town for shopping... or off on a photography/camping trip... or off to a rally... or doing some suspension tuning on my bike... I need a reason. (and i am pretty good at dreaming up reasons - especially with photography as a hobby!)

This perhaps gives me an objective to achieve... a goal. My bike isn't just a toy/play thing sitting in the garage like a jet ski or skateboard. It's a lifestyle and a form of transport. A very enjoyable lifestyle and form of transport.

I get to do a bit of dirt riding sometimes. But it's not enough. And when I do get the chance to ride my VFR between home and the mechanics, my raiding is hardly legal.
