That Auckland motor way is a dangerous place. I was up that way shortly into the new year. The safest place to be is where you can change lanes in an instant in case some idiot surprises you an comes alongside unexpected. The other solution is to pass eveything in sight. Did not experiance gridlock conditions. Miight have found an off ramp and had a coffee or something.

XJ is going to cop it

I'm sorry Frosty but you passed me on Tuesday and I didn't bother keeping up. You were splitting without due care and consideration to other road users, and if someone does pull out on you, you are likely to come a cropper.

How many accidents have you had recently?

Yes, it was a bit like that. I'm glad you said it, someone needs to. I think you should slow down a bit, too, Frosty.

Ya know in 25 years of riding Ive never had an accident commuting -not once -never. NADA zero. The last 2 accidents I had -actually the only 2 in 7 years -one was on the racetrack and one was well plain dumb luck.
I generally ride with my hand already on the front brake commuting which means if I get even a flicker of sideways movement from a cage driver I haul on the brakes.
Point taken though guys The very reason I buy old bikes is to slow myself down -Im an impatient old bastard
Maybee Id better go back to the ol CB125 to commute on

No need to change your habits mate, as your riding like the germans drive on the autobarn. I do the same.
You're looking ahead through the lanes, looking for gaps that cars could possibly move into, registering whats going on in not 1 or 2 cars ahead of you, but 6 or 7 or 15.
That's pretty much why transit don't give a us a free-4-all limit on open road, because it general, NZ drivers/riders are idiots. Looking 1 car / 20m ahead and wonder why they ran up the back of that car, or figuring out what happened when flying through the air.
I'm on Akland motorways everyday commuting, and not once have I had a car change lane on me, near hit me - simply because you just don't put yourself in those 'danger' areas.
    My 0.02 anyway
    Because I can...
