Shell Station and a nice lady looking after a biker

Pulled into Shell this morning and filled up the V-Strom. $25 (Loving the new petrol prices).

I go inside to pay, and *&%& (thats polite for fuck), my cards are missing from my wallet.

See lady at counter and explain that my cards have probably been stolen and I have just noticed.

I offer her $10 (all the cash I had in my wallet), photo id to hold (My drivers licence), a brand new $1100 blackberry bold (because I hate my iphone and had to get something with a decent battery) as collateral as I head back to the house to pick up some cash (all of 20 mins return).

She wont allow it. I offer to leave my Givi box off the bike as well - nope.

She tells me the only option is to call the police. I explain that:

    a) I'm leaving them plenty of stuff to show my intent to come back, and
    b) I will be back within 20 mins - its not like the cops are going to come out lights and sirens blaring.

How about I offer - I leave all my stuff here, you take my number plate as well - and If I'm not back in 20 mins - call the police then?

No - we have to call the police now and you have to wait. (BTW this is the manager of the branch I am talking to)

I suggest that they call them then, but I'm off, and I will be back and paid before they arrive.

Lady behind me - goes "You folk are being stupid - here let me pay for his petrol."

I object but the Shell staff are lightening quick to get the problem moved to another customer.

Lady turns to me and says "I cannot let someone start the week on a bad note" and despite being soaking wet in my bike gear, gives me a hug and says have a great day!

I had to plead with her to get her address so I can pop around with the $$$ (and some flowers) this evening.

This was some very well dressed mid 40 lady driving a nice new exec 4x4. Now with a really wet jacket from hugging a bloke in dirty old bike gear.

What a sweetheart! She made my day. Now fuck it - I feel obliged to do something nice for someone else .... grrrrr

Back when I was working at BP some lady couldn't make her $17 bill. I paid it in full and she payed me back with a nice card and a $20 vodafone topup.

Nothing like doing good for someone else for a change.

That's great. Good to know there are still good, thoughtful people in the world.

that shell woman sounds like a right bitch! that woulda been more than enough for me to hold onto while you went and got the cash. in the end though, my boss changed the rules and we werent allowed to take ANYTHING from a customer except a signed promise to pay [tui please!] meant quite a few dollars of petrol unpaid by the time i quit.
we had something like 10 broken cell phones, 3 empty wallets, a broken pink ipod, a broken digital camera and the cover off a car stereo. basically a cupboard full of crap. needless to say, when the owner of the camera failed to return as promised, i took off with the memory card. [left it for a year or so to be sure]

good on the now slightly damp 4wd driver. definately pay it forward, even if its just a smile at someone having a bad day.

Serves you right for going to a Shell station.

The one time my card has bounced was at a BP station - I just handed the chap my drivers license, headed home and was back with cash within quarter of an hour. I like the guys at BP Howick - they know me, and they like motorbikes. Plus rep to you BP Howick guys, even if you are boyracers!

What a kind lady! Nice to hear that there are people that still do random acts of kindness. Petrol station Manager - what a waste of police time! Hope you cards turn up.

cards are gone-burger. Cancelled this morning as soon as I got to work. Checked on Internet banking - and accounts still have $$$ in them so I'm guessing whoever stole them didnt get my pin.

That will teach me for taking my wallet out in West Auckland!

Well there is a happy slap in the face. Good on that lady. Thumbs up to her . Now go and do something nice so we can get back to the real world of the few crappy people making our live miserable (well mine at least). It is making it hard for me to work thinking there are actually really nice people out there. (as opposed the good people on here)
I may be slow at getting things but..... no wait I'm just slow.
