Heaps of roadworks (everything between newly layed base coarse metal to new tarseal), and heaps of bleeding tarseal. I was quietly thankful not to be on the sem fiddy.
    Just a heads up, folks!

Perhaps the above post explains your sign on name then haha, I know a dude who travells from Te Kuwiti to New Plymouth every monday morn at 6am, and makes it to work for 7-30 am, even in those conditions on an old 86 GSXR 750

Why didn't you take the Fletcher?

Mind you I couldn't be bothered trying to get my head around the HN landing plates/proceedures etc. So i guess 4 wheels was a better choice!

The controllers at HN are pretty helpful to dumb ag pilots! So it's not too much of a problem.
After driving on that crap road the other day, the old Fletcher looks like the better alternative!
I've said it before, though, I'd much rather be wearing the Shoei helmet than the Gallet

against my better judgement,i decided to go for a ride to mokau today.
ya got that right pussy.fucken shit.my ride's now dust coloured.

i just don't understand why they don't finish one patch before starting another.but i guess starting 50 of them at once is the done thing when starting roadworks ...... at christmas time.

Mitchell Road (just west of Whakamaru) is just one wet layer of tar on a hot day. There is a thin strip of chip between the sea of tar, but its almost as slippery cause of all the soft stuff around/under it.

Eight Mile turn off through to Mitchell Road is good though and from Whakamaru to taupo is ok too (but yes, watch out for the patch of concrete!)

The plan (apparently) is to get all of the works completed before Christmas (Tui).

The stuff in the Awakino Gorge is straight out of the Ministry of Works era...50kph signs where there's no roadworks, no signs on the corners where there is freshly thrown chip seal!

On the way back from Taupo the other weekend I managed to strike every bloody Stop sign on the way! All six of them!

(Still managed a decent ride all the same )

Luckily the next time I'm heading back to Taupo (to see the Endurance Racing) will be in the cage and the time after that will probably be Pie Rower so no doubt there will be fresh road works by then!

mate, there's only 2 arrivals, 4 departures, or 2 instrument approaches (although the VOR was down for maint. today)

probably more like the 300' cloud base for most of the morning - even a fletcher going IFR* wouldn't have made it over the Kawhia gap....
