Help me pick one: GasGas ec200 or a Kdx200

Hi all,
im in the market for a new bike,probably going to buy one of the above brand new in the coming new year.I have plenty of experience with the kdx,had a '99 kdx220r,and currently an 04 kdx200.I have riden a few mates bikes, '99 ktm 300, o4 crf250,07 crf250,07 yz450f etc,i liked the crf's felt a little easier to ride than mine(better suspended etc)but the kdx is way easier to maintain,and i have plenty experience on them now,and i can go reasonably well on mine(kind of a experinced novice)and i like the way they are easy to ride and not too taxing.In saying that,i have heard some good things about the GasGas ec200,good power,suspension,and price wise at the moment they are quite similar to the kdx.Be good to have some feedback on why you would buy one over the other,and why(price,handling,power,parts,build quality,how long one will last over the other etc)
Any and all feedback/comments appreciated.

I'd get the gasgas, but its slightly harder to get parts, but the KDX I find is for real beginners.

How about something else, like a ktm? The kdx will be the same as the one you have now

i'd get the gasgas, it comes standard with better suspension than the kdx, and its an enduro bike not a trail bike, and like you say there really cheap.

new 2007 one for less than 8 grand? and thats the 200, 250, 300 all for less than 8
as for the parts thing, consumables like piston and rings, wiseco do them, probably similar cost to the kdx i would have thought

I'd be going the gas gas out of the two, just. And my reason for this is that you can get the kdx going good by spending a bit on the suspension(kx125 front end etc) but the gas gas come pretty much with this done as std.

How ever the Ktm200 is just another level above. If you can afford it, look to the Ktm.

How ever the Ktm200 is just another level above. If you can afford it, look to the Ktm.

Haven't ridden either of them so my impression not a proper opinion - but personally I'd pick the Gasser, mainly as it's a more up to date design. Not to bag the iconic KDX though, still an excellent machine and still competetive enough too if ridden well (eg. Castrol 6hr winner 06?). Try this: Stare at the empty spot in the garage for bit and imagine what you'd rather see parked there. I bought an 07 200 pumpkin. Just wanted one.

(BTW I think all the left over 07 GG 200s have sold, and there can't be too many new KDXs left now either?)

Dunno, but it would pay to try and get some second hand forks/clamps and then get someone like Danger to service them.

A few years ago I had a kdx motor in a Kx125 frame and it was just great. Managed a few wins in the novice devision....

In the old farts class that was

For us trail riders its a cheap option to get a fairly decent alround affordable and easily maintained package.

Gulp.. Kdx a trail bike. OMG where have been boy!!!

KDX was and still is a bloody good enduro bike i.e. Luke Uhrle NZ, 16yrs old, road a KDX200 to 224th place in the 2009 ISDE enduro in Greece. What's more incredible is that he had no front brake for 4.5 days.

anything but the kdx. if you want to drive a bus, get a job driving a bus.

the KTM200 like a few guys on here have seems to get a good review from everyone who touches one

why not something like a MX 4 stroke 250 or a DRZ or something?

I'd say at least go for a ride on a KTM200exc as well. I've ridden Rupes ec 200 gasgas and although its got all the flash suspension the ktm seems to have a bit more zap to it. I think the Gasser leans a bit more towards an enduro feel, longer pipe for a wider power band. Well thats how it felt to me in the 02-03 year bracket. I didn't like the seat handle bar position either you seemed to sit on it rather than in it. In saying the above rupes still quite a bit faster than me on it. And thats only my opinion. My minds open to anything but I'm hoping to get an 08 Ktm200exc soon but with work slowing and all this talk of recession is making me think twice. After riding the gasser I'm personally going for the Pumpkin. Probably get better resale and parts prices as well.

nowhere near a kdx???

yes but was it a standard kdx? straight out of the crate? and that was an epic effort by Luke btw

what i was trying to say is that the gasgas already has all the things you would do to the kdx, standard
i have read reviews that say the 200 gasgas was not the best in the range and the ktm was better, but the 250 was better than the ktm equivalent

I'd sell mine for the right money, just put a new shiney fmf gnarly pipe on for more bottom end and mid range.

It's all up together and no money needs to be spent
