43 new speed cameras... plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose

Nice to see that speed is still the ultimate bogeyman.

    *sigh*

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

They will replace 31 mobile cameras now in use - which catch a motorist every 10 minutes on average.

So, there aren't many more cameras on the road, with the withdrawl of the film-based cameras.

The decision to expand the speed camera programme was part of an attempt to lower the road toll to less than 300 by 2010.

Yet they still drag this old horse to keep kicking...
An unachievable tatget that the idiots have come up with to "justify" virtually any road policing measure.
Concentrate on the standards of driving in this Banana Republic, ffs!

These are the new Pole Mount units that I mentioned we were testing back in February, can attach to the back of just about any vehicle, and any pole, sign, etc that is 60mm or greater diameter.

Hopefully they'll retire the last of the old permanent fixture camera's, the loops they run off cost the taxpayer about $20k just for the wire under the road!

Ahh so that potentially what that is, I have seen on Avonside drive attached to the pole there a white box with a red strip around it and what appeared to be a camera up the pole, might have to stop and have a look today.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

I just reread the stuff article and took this to be a very relevant point

Superintendent Paula Rose, the national road policing manager, said speed cameras had been an essential tool in moving on from the "killing fields" on the roads a generation ago. "Today we've got faster cars, we've got young people accessing fast cars ... so what a success rate."
Its a whole other issue but learners in fast cars unrestricted, I applaud the thought behind the move but unless they alter the mindset of issuing masses of tickets and actually increase officers this will not have the desired effect, we need more bums warming seats and a higher visible presence, how may officers could had either been employed or retained had they used this money in other ways.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.
