    Trust your gut...

Well I had a close shave today, coming through Cambridge south bound. There is that little intersection that is weird as hell with logic stating that Southbound would have a giveaway but strait through has the sign. Anyway I was south bound and some cock in a people mover decides that he would look at the bike and go.
The 'stated' thing to do is slow down, honk, wave, invite for Coffey and if it is a hot chick ask her to flash her tits. After that the bike goes ahead and gets hit. Anyway I dropped down a few gears coming to the corner, covered the brake and when I was about 8-10m out (and doing around 30kph) the prick started to move. I was in second and by the time I figured out what the hell was happening it would have been close to late to stop.
So I gunned it a little, going across the front of the people mover before it has advanced to far. I ended up with about 1.5-2m clearance and I know if I had done the full slowdown-honk thing I would be picking up broken bits of katana off the road.

So trust your gut, be in an appropriate gear to get out of trouble and trust your bike to.

If I get bored latter I may type up the other two times Cambridge drivers tried to kill me today, buy your wheat bix there, you get a drivers license in the box.

BTW I know that that would not be the right course of action for a lot of situations, it just was for this one.

As my gut widens, I end up having to "truss" it more

Good save. Now you watch, they respond with "gee that bike was speeding - lucky he didn't crash!"

"read what Steve says. He's right."

"I did axactly as you said and it worked...!!"
    "Wow, Great advise there DB."
