Returning to the subject of the thread...

As a fan of naked muscle bikes, I find it hard to believe that this monstrosity was designed by the same company that brought us the R1. OK, that same company is also responsible for the FZ6...

Prediction: They won't sell any in New Zealand. Not helped by Yamaha NZ not providing dealers with demo bikes. I suspect they will be too expensive for a bike you can't tour on or hoon on. The "target" market (the beer-gutted bint bonker) will probably be more likely to fork out the extra and buy an eleventy-one or a Hardley.

1600 cc must be putting out big HP / No sorry as with most Yamaha's it's not about 90HP from a 1600 motor that's wrong . Even the BMW naked bike is putting out 165HP from a 1200cc 4 cylinder .Style would grow on a few people but nothing to rave over .

I can point you to at least one of your recent shouldn't be's. Sorry, I know it's wrong but it just looks wrong without it. Consider this a thread pirating.

Reps claimed it was a sports tourer and I was astounded that its 1700 odd cc's (there's that bloody apostrophy again. Sorry, 2 now) delivered barely as much power and torque as le Voxan. He predicted mid $27thou and availability around May.

Despite being cluttered to hell (especially compared to le voxan) I love its looks, and always prefer shaft drive. Shame they don't make the Voxan in that format.

I'd be curious to know what parts it shares with the R1?

Obviously not the engine...maybe the gearbox?
Obviously not the fairing...maybe the handgrips?
Obviously not the swingarm...maybe the rear shock?
Obviously not the gas tank...maybe the tank?
Or perhaps it's just the badge

There were a shit load of YZ125s around in the 80s and 90s minus motor, they were used in go carts - but they had the chain on the right,it took a lot of work to fit an XR200 into them, better to stay with the XR200.

Hope its got a bit of grunt to backup its brutish looks.
Anyone remember the Yamaha Bulldog BT1100?
    Looked awesome on paper

Sadly only had about 60hp and was a bit of a flop. I know its not just about the hp, but seemed to be seriously underpowered. 120hp would be good for the empty one , after all whats the vrod putting out, be up against that won't it?

Hmm, be kinda funny sitting on the pipes though wouldn't it? And even with a heat shield it must get hot. Looks cool and power to boot though

    Ermm, prepare to be underwhelmed:
    Max power: 66.3kW at 4750rpm
    Max Torque: 150.1Nm at 3750rpm
    Dry weight: 240kg
The torque is good, but it'll never be a flyer. Apparently it's OK up to 180k then it's very slow up to 200k
Uses a low compression, long stroke push rod air cooled 1670cc engine based on the Road Star Warrior (but they only share 10% of the same engie parts apparently)
The forks and brakes are derived from the R1

    The Super Duke?
    90kW @ 9000
    100Nm @ 7000
    Dry weight 179kg.

Through to me you have got.

Apostrophe "abuse" can never be forgiven but it can occasionally be understood. As a tip, cc is sufficient without an s on the end. Pros and cons -- not needed. 1950s -- ditto. Be brave!

Back to the thread, I didn't think that the MT01 (highly imaginative name there too, which people will no doubt mis-apostrophise) was a shaftee, I thought it had a chain...

I don't know guys - maybe you're spoiled by these incredibly high-powered bikes that come out now.

After all, until recently I was riding a 1987 FZR750R 2LM-spec model with 80BHP and 230kg of weight - the performance wasn't too bad. Better with another 30hp though - but it has a fairing.

It is a naked after all - and let's face it - do you really want to go too fast on a bike with no fairing?

When I rode the Buell XB9S recently it wasn't too comfortable at speed approaching "stop the bike, walk home and catch the train for four weeks" territory.

I would say in the real world good acceleration up to 180 km/hr would be plenty for 90% of riders.

I would like to at least try one out. But I'll be honest. At that price, I'd rather have this bike.

    No where's that drool emoticon
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
