I had EXACTELY the same thing happen to my 6mth old vl250 except it was a guy and he had asked if he could sit on the bike. As he owns a bike I said yes thinking it would be fine. Didn't expect him to 'forget' to put the stand down when he got off it and wandered off.

He was young. He said sorry then promptly wiped the incident from his mind so when 3 weeks later I told him I got the bike all fixed up he said "oh I had forgotten about that.. lol" I punched him. yep. I did.

    I learnt a few things.
    1. How to fix chrome, alloy and plastic
    2. Its my bike and I dont have to let anyone else near it.
    3. Noone who respects me is gonna make me feel bad if I say they are not allowed on my bike.
    4. At least it wasn't me who put the first dent on her.

Feeling your pain here mate. Its a hard one. I chose to obsorb the cost of my incident cause I was stupid enough to tell him he could sit on the bike. And I was in a position to fix it up pretty much without having to use insurance. Good luck what ever you decide to do.
I wouldn’t be broke if the voices in my head paid rent

    Yes, she pays.

Don't be a soft cock and act as if nothing has happened, Like somebody here mentioned, if you accidentally broke her phone, she'd expect you to cought up the money.

Be assertive but not agressive with your approac. The main lesson here is, she needs to learn if she break other people's stuff property (your pride and joy we're talking about here, right?) you ought to be responsible.

End of story, there's no need to over complicate things.

Haven't read the whole thread but...why is there even a question over this? She helped herself and broke/damaged stuff...her responsibility to fix (pay for).
And no apology? Pad the bill...
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Absolutely!!! Agree with BC and all the other women (and men of course) who support she-pays-the-lot scenario. I know I've been mighty tempted to sit on other people's bikes in the past, but managed to resist for a variety of reasons - if I'd been her and hit with a bill for the repairs I can guarantee I'd NEVER do it again to anyone else!

    Yep she pays.
You may be surprised how many people don't realize how much bikes are worth. She prolly hasn't considered that a bike can cost more to fix than a car, most non-bikers don't.
Just try approaching her and let her know. I'll bet she's surprised how much damage she did.

If she sat on that bike without permission, she is personally and legally liable for any damaged caused.

    Some options / salient facts:

    • You could make a claim on your insurance. This may depend on your excess, but if it exceeds this, your insurer will seek reparations on your behalf (including the excess).
    • In any event send her a "hold liable" letter. This is a letter outlining the incident and the fact that she's liable for damages. Then outline what you require her to do and what you intend to do to if she doesn't comply.
    • Don't rely on verbal agreements (Verbal Agreements - worth the paper they aren't written on), when/if the thing turns to custard and you go to the Disputes Tribunal, a written record is invaluable.
    • Document the repair process - ref. above.
    • She may actually be insured, but doesn't know it - all House/Contents policies have a personal liability section for this sort of thing.

If you are reluctant about confronting her over this, you could take an approach that makes it seem as if you have no choice.

Tell her nicely that you have "been in touch with your insurance company, and when you told them the details they have asked for her name and address. As they will be contacting her and requiring that she pay for the repairs, and taking her to court if she doesn't"

Tell her you "don't want to get her in any trouble", so perhaps if she "pays you the money directly, you will be able to withdraw your insurance claim and keep them out of it"

That way you appear to be the good guy.
Only risk is if she says "let them --- I don't care", and you don't actually have insurance, then your bluff will be called. But if she is that sort of person then only fair if she pays up anyway.

I wanna know what happened! It's like shortland st, only there's better actors on here.

It's been what 2-3 days? If you choose to hit her up about the money from her (which is a no brainer), the longer you leave it the harder it will be.

I also can't believe how many horny buggers are on here!!

If you still speak to your ex, get her to mention something about it. You can test the waters to her reaction (will she be a bitch or not, then your prepped for it). If you aren't talking to your ex, don't mention anything on here, cause someone is bound to ask for her number and photo's.
