Since me posting this thread have had a ride of the 250r and my final verdict...In the words of Borat.. VERY NIICCE!!!!! Ninja 250r are great bikes.... If I had a choice I would be going CBR250RR but thats just me,
for a twin cylinder Nice work Kawa, oh and cant get the sexy arse of the ninja out of my head lol so If you are learning I would say Ninja 250R no doubts. Good price good bike

My 250 was a ZXR but I was very tempted by the old GPX. The retro styling put me off though. The 250R fixes that one major issue - style.

Yes a CBR or ZXR is faster but they're ALL slow as shit compared to what you'll upgrade to.

If you ask me people should be thinking of resale and hopefully doing bugger all to it bar sticky tyres and basic servicing. The IL4's aren't getting any younger or cheaper (because they keep getting crashed).

My $00.02: I reckon it's a shame they didn't just dump the carby and go to the fuel injection everywhere, instead of just for certain markets due to emissions regulations...
They state that increased cost is the reason for this. I don't know though, when Honda has fuel injection on their CBR125, and it's retailing for a smidge under 5 Grand new. If Honda did a 250 equivalent of the CBR125 for the NZ market right now for a similar price to the Ninja, I'd go out and buy it tomorrow. Honda's choices for a brand new 250cc are pretty limited right now, and I don't want to get a 125.

    new ninja = modern gpx

would a gpx outrun a bandit? no

as such it's not really surprising that the new ninja isn't a race machine (as far as the 250 class goes)

get the mc22 or a vtr250 if you want something newer

Actually Bandits are pretty quick and have good top end (OMG I just praised a suzuki). My Mates one only really walks away from me over 100 ks, under it I still own him.

anything under 250cc plus anything under 650cc with a power to weight ratio of less than 150KW per tonne

so an nc30 is almost on the list and the nc35 IS on the list, as is the sv650

basically negates the whole purpose of having a learner on a low power, low torque, reasonably light bike that won't bite them, all because people are whinging that the market for the IL4 250 is ridiculously bloated and there are a few older model bikes that have poor enough performance to be comparable to a 250

all it will acheive is bloating the cost of the 400 and 650 while putting IL4 owners out of pocket. as it is if you DID decide to rip yourself off on an IL4 250 you don't need to save up (and may actually make money) when you upgrade to a 400 or older 600, OR will already be half way to buying a newer 600

mind you, i own an NC35 so might be in luck come the time to upgrade, however unlikely that is.

edit: and i think they're ditching the 2-stroke 250, which isn't an entirely bad idea

Well a mate bought one the other day and was talking it up to hell, which I
personaly think good on him as its him riding and loving it not me, and in some ways fair enough its a F***in sexy bike...BUT!

If you want a 250 sports bike with a decent get up and go look else where!

When he came round the other day my other mate folowed him to on his 95 250 Bandit, we sat around talking about the bikes etc etc as ya do, then
mate on Ninja said to mate on Bandit, lets have a Drag to the end of the street and back as it's quiet as no cars etc (note Street about 500m long straight), so they did and I watched thinkin to myself yea sweet Ninja bout to K.O a Bandit..BUT NO!!!!

As they took off with the Ninja screaming its tits off and the Bandit humming away the Bandit completely and utterly Ate the Ninja for tea and the bandit really didnt seen to be trying very hard.... so yea just a we observation I thought I would share with ya'll

so yea even i was thinkin of the ninja 08 but after that might just go get ZXR or MC22 for that fact lol

But for the new price cant complain really, I guess , ummm cough cough

    Cher
i test rode those bikes a few month ago as i was in the market of a 250 - tested a hyosung 250r and that ninja 250r fitting with a yoshi pipe - the sound of it is a head turning the look is sexy, but the power is shit! i didnt like it at all, i guess its ok for learners who like to take it easy........

    so instead i got my self a 1989 CBR250R - loving it! 27k for $3,500

just cant justify spending 7/ 8k on a new bike......

I just got my 08 zxr 250 about 2 months ago and am loving it. I'v got some mates that ride the same model as me too, and between us we found that the rider holds great sway in getting the most out of your engine. But agreed, that when it comes down to it, the 4 250 would have more go than the ninja. But ninja's are a great learners bike (being my 1st bike) and would recommend it to newbies anyday.
