Each day I'm more and more saddened on just how PC this country is becoming.

Walking down Queen St Ive seen kids sniffing glue, hookers (both at the top end near K rd - btw at only $15 I thought s/he was very reasonable ), homeless people, drunken assholes making it unpleasant to walk down there after 10 at night, roving groups of kids looking for fights making me worry about my own kids being down town clubbing at night.

But one PC idiot thinks something that is done with all good intentions (and significant cost) trying to make Queen St a little Xmasy and lets get rid of it.

I think MORE Xmas decorations in queen street would be a better idea. A little 'Christmas spirit' would go a long way.

I never had a problem with clowns, but then again country kids aren't scared of much

Have to agree that Santa is "a bit seedie" alright. Take it down? Not on your nelly
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

    Bloody PC bollocks.
That is probably a relic of the 1960's anyway, when a wink wasn't as "saucy" as it could be now.

I do wonder what they have done to the gearing on that finger though. I'm sure it didn't move that fast back then.

Where the hell do they keep that thing?
The argument that he should be removed because he is an eyesore and a waste of money is a valid one.
The finger being offensive is not.

Not really - its paid for by Whitcoulls - it comes from their Marketing budget. They choose to do it for tradition and "good will".

I don't actually consider that a waste of money.

    Oh okay.
I thought it was a government thing, but if its owned by a private company they should be able to do whatever they like.
Nobody should be able to FORCE them to take it down.

The last time I saw an old bearded man winking and fingering like that he was dressed as a catholic priest,

Keep it though, it will be funny when the finger falls off and hits a few of the Queen Street Bro' gang on the noggin

Ah the good old days... The original Farmers store in Hobson St used to own it and it went up every Christmas. As a kid, seeing that giant Santa made Christmas official. When the new owners of Farmers closed down the Hobson St store, he was broken down into pieces and chucked into a dark alley. Unnecessary expenditure. I saw this a few years back and almost cried. I said almost cause I don't cry, I just get angry.

I remember how Christmas wasn't so obviously commercial. I remember the Salvation Amy Band walking around our neighborhood singing carols. I remember going to my fathers company Christmas party when it was about kids. The company gave presents away to everybody.

    People now are just cunts.
