    Noobie GN250 question

I just got a GN250 2 days ago and it has a red switch by the throttle.

Does anyone know what that switch does? I don't
    Here's a picture (I hope):

Can be used to quickly kill the bike if needed. Just use the key.

Lol! You could experiment -- try turning the switch off then trying to start your bike.

Or hit the button while the engine is running

Have a look at the little icon next to the switch. It's the stability-control-system, or SCS, to prevent rollovers. Having it set to the lower position prevents the bike from rolling over; setting it to the other position turns this feature off and won't stop the bike from rolling over if it's incorrectly ridden.

    It's a kill switch.

Right well, I'm a newbie too. They'd explained this while I was running through the Basic Handling Test, so I'll tack a question on here as well.

Will that (or something like that) kill the engine when things go awry? E.g in a spill or a fall, will it kill the engine as well to prevent petrol and hot engine from meeting?

Or is it a manual only device and used when you can't reach the keys?

Good question. It's a manual device only, and will not stop the engine in case of a spill.

Which goes to prove the proverb that there is no such thing as a silly question only silly answers.
I remember when I didnt know what all the controls on my first bike were. What an adventure lies ahead, so many things to see and do, people to meet and new skills to learn.

Press it, press it, press it!!!

Joke, it is the kill switch. I think your actually supposed to turn your bike off with it not the key.

As others have told you it is the kill switch. Turns the engine off. Just a word about the killswitch though. Always check it is in the on position when you go to start your bike. Plenty of people have been caught out with a bike that wont start, only to find their kill switch is off.

Welcome to KB! Good question too!

Thanks for your reply, I'll make sure it's always on, wouldn't want to fall off

If I wasn't so cute I might've given you my GN250 engine when I fall off by doing daring stunts with the "SCS" turned on

Nope - it's only there for when you can't turn the engine off with the key. Say for example because it snapped off in a crash or you can't reach the key because you're pinned etc.

I think more common use is to play tricks on group rides *click* *snigger*
