If you cant fix it with a hammer, Its an electrical problem.
I'd like to come on this ride, but I'm new to all of this.
What are the rules and regulations of a big ride like this?
Can one just turn up on the day and ride?
Are there any special things I ought to know first?
I haven't ridden in a large group of bikes before, or a slow convoy.
There are no rules or regulations, other than the usual road rules and follow the directions of the marshals.
Just rock up reasonably early (- absurdly early start time) and wait until people start rolling out. Follow the mob, and just keep in your place.
Usual courtesy stuff, and keep an eye on your mirrors.
It may not be so slow! Ride before last I near the rear, doing 130kph with a cop behind me signalling to go faster !

Sponsorship isn't necessary! Just turn up and ride. Bring some cash ($20 or so should do it) and buy a badge and whatever other merchandise is around. Most excellent fun!
I will be there - I have been on the ride every year since before I got my bike! [I cheated - the first time I was a pillion.]
My advice for first timers would be to be courteous and just look after yourself. There will be the odd weirdo who will decide they need to push through the middle of the entire bunch, or squeeze between you and the person next to youbut don't let them bother you. Just look ahead, allow enough following distance, maintain a consistent line and let everyone else look after themselves.
There will be a wide variety of speeds during the ride. On the motorway you will be going fast - slow - fast - slow. There tends to be a bottleneck at the Wellesley Street off-ramp and a bit of a squish at the end when everyone's getting sorted in the car park. Just take your time and don't get distracted by the presence of all those other bikes!
There is no such thing as bad weather; only inappropriate clothing!
I will be up in Auckland this weekend so i shall be there.
Then off to puke![]()
