    Radar detectors?

Don't know if this has been thrashed before or not, but can anyone recommend a radar detector for motorcycle? I am thinking Belltronics but i am not made of money so was thinking slightly on a budget. Any suggestions?

I was thinking of posting the exact same question last night.

Also is it best to have one connected to an ear piece, or are flashing lights o.k.
I think I'd rather be watching where I'm going than constantly checking a detector.

I have a Beltronics XR70 and use an ear piece.
Only had it 3 months and paid for itself over many times, especially when the missus uses it in her company car during the week when I'm not on the bikes.

May i ask how much you paid for it?

And yes, from my research it is best to have an earpiece.

There is one way of finding out. It's called the "search" function. It involves typing in a word or word string like, say, "radar+detector" and seeing what happens. It's actually a more efficient technique, requiring fewer keystrokes, than starting a new thread.

And yes, it has been thrashed before.

Got a Bell XR950. Its preformance has been 100%. It won't save you in every situation, it detects lazers but its allredy too late. I would say it gives 2 sec of police who are turning on and off the radar for oncoming vehicles when they are right on top of you, but usually detects them miles away. I would say it has warned me of about 100+ radar traps over the last 2 years before I was even in the area the cops are working. It will detect and did see a cop up to 12km on a straight road. It has saved me from one ticket I know of but does slow me to 109 when it gives a chirp anywhere any time.
I left mine on the bike and it got stuffed in the rain a while back. The nice man at radar direct had a whole new guts fitted for $180. I think the thing cost me $750 two years ago.

LOL, I actually like these threads popping back up, technology advances, so new information, pricing, quality etcetc is good.

Think it was just under 900, but that included a water proof cover, and 3 hardwire kits for all my bikes.
Got it from Radar direct Welly.

Has technology, or even pricing, changed much since last week or whenever the last thread was?

The last posts in the two most recent threads were both dated 7 December.

Ah well, that's nearly a week

Radar Direct have a new waterproof detector made specifically for Motorcycles and it comes with a wireless speaker to mount in your helmet. By all accounts it works very well.
