    Hyosong GT650R

Hey Guys, want to find out what is your impression of the GT650R. Here in SA, Kawasaki was bringing them in and doing the relevent after sales, they have just recently stopped handling the Hyosongs and another (non bike) company has taken over the sales and service.

Is the spares and service market available in NZ?

I can pick up this bike,2007 model,6500Km for about NZ$6400.

    Thanks in advance

Careful. My GT250R just blew a Piston, Conrod and Crankshaft after 17,000Km.

Mine has 17,000 on the clock, I have had no problems whatsoever. It's a dream to ride, overtaking is but a flick of the throttle and handles beautifully in the twisties. I have had absolutely no regrets dumping the ole CBR 600.

There only one way to find out if it's the right bike for you, (test) ride it! Go over to korider.com for more opinions.

    Why?
Somebody is happy with their bike?
Or that they enjoy riding it.?
Or they enjoy the handling? (I've ridden a few RS250's that I'd happily chuck into a skip bin). Flogged out suspension, pissing oil out of every gskt, and running like a 15yr old two stroke that has had no maintenance.
    I'd ride a GT650 over that anyday.

There is full spares and service support in NZ for the GT650R. That pricing is similar here.

The suspension is quite rough on these bikes - the forks are easy to resolve as they already have a basic 1990's cartridge technology that just needs some modern digressive valving and shim stack lovin'. The rear shock is a throw away item - trust me it will make a much better boat anchor than it will a suspension component - replace with anything fitted with digressive valving. The bike is perfectly rideable as standard, but you will soon tire of it on anything less than perfectly smooth surfaces.

Two-up its a great little tourer.

The ergos are a little crude - clutch lever is quite firm, so its difficult to one-finger pop-the-clutch.

It has stacks and stacks of performance for those coming off a learner bike. It will crackle along at 140-180k/hr all day no sweat. I've seen 230k on mine, but the speedo reads nearly 10% high.

Leaning well forward it will power-stand in 1st gear but not in second - you'll need the clutch.

If you like the noise and vibration of vtwins, then you will like this bike - quite a lot of the time the mirrors are completely unusable because of the vibration. Awesome!

It is REALLY economical on fuel - 15L does about 350km, or 300km if you cane it hard.

    The projector headlights are poor.

Mods in order of preference, HID fullbeam headlight (for safety), shock, forks, exhaust.

EVERYONE including bikers stops and looks at it and talks about it. The bike is quite attractive and is somewhat of an oddity.

They crash well. I flipped mine @120k and spent $1800 on fixing it. I was lucky though.

Make sure you are prepared for the public ridicule you will get on the forums, particularly this forum. As you see, it has started already.

Overall, I like mine and I'll keep it a while.

Not to mention the 1000cc version should be completed by 2010.

Just because they are talking about it doesn't mean its complementary - esp from bikers.

Generally there is a bit of friendly banter (as there is for Honda's (gay), Harley's (Tractors), My Bike - a V-Strom DL1000 (Ugly as fuck).

The ridicule is normally given to people who make idiot post. You may be misunderstanding peoples intent - the ridicule you more than the bike.

Heck - thats 3 years worth of insurance right there. So far you are in deficit DB. Guess that self insure idea you keep pushing just doesn't add up huh?

Well I was there and you were not, so I expect I am qualified to judge it. Curious also, how you suggest these comments might be derogatory (my perception is out of order?), yet the ones on KB are just plain banter (perception is out of order again?) I do not think so, Tank. More the reverse is true by several orders of magnitude. Nice try excusing yourself from that one.

Except for the claim excess you forgot to add, that makes it only one year, so I am square. Also you thinly gloss over the past ten years that have been accident free also. On that basis, it is your plan that doesn't add up, and mine that is winning dramatically.

$500 x 10 years = free bike, where I expect you had to pay hard earned cash for yours.

Anyway, you manage to have me arguing with you about your favourite topic yet again, Tank, but I am catching on fast you see.

Not trying to excuse myself for anything. I stand corrected - you are right. All the comments are derogatory.

OK - fair point on the excess. however, you also gloss over the fact you have only been on the road since Feb of this year. I remember all your other riding was off road on (whatever)

So it dosnt actually add up does it?

BTW - where did the Feb come from? read this post: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...highlight=post funny enough you were waaaaaaaaing even from your first ever thread.

You can't compare the two bikes (apples v apples please). Hyosungs are far to inconsistant. I'm not even going to bother going into detail.

You know it... Hyosung are built cheap and nasty - I used to own one.

I feel deeply sorry for you if you'd take a Hyosung over an Aprilia.
