If there is no export papers including dereg from America and import into NZ papers it would be very hard to impossible. Propably better to wait for another one - they are not that uncommon are they?

Hey Chch 650 owners, does anyone have a 13tooth front sprocket I can flog for Methven and replace with new or pay for its use with beer. The tracks only 1 km long and need to gear the old gurl down. Your sprocket will be run with a new sprocket so should be all good. PM me please.

I finally bought a BRP miself. It looks like it has been prep-ed for motar racing (or at least partially):
    - 110 front and 140 rear street tyres on 17inch rims
    - braided brake lines
    - secondary air filter where the crankcase breather hose should be
    - suspect some suspension work has been done - it feels much stiffer than a stock xr
    - yoshimura race muffler (stock header)
    - looks like swingarm upgrade (either yoshimura swingarm or the guy just stuck a yoshimura sticker on it, but the swingarm looks newer than the bike)
    - upgraded brakes both front and back.
    - no engine work according to the previous owner but can't be sure
    - endurance odometer (the front wheel doesn't have the thingy that the stock speedo cable hooks into) and upgraded headlights

I have a few questions for people who have had a 650 for a while:
    - does crankcase breather hose replacement for an air filter have any benefits, or should I put back the hose to the airbox?
    - does anybody have some XR650 parts laying around? I have a few bits missing/broken
    - how can I tell if the suspension is the stock one or has been upgraded?
    - for people who motarded their xr650 - how did you solve the kick stand issue (with 'tard wheels it's too long). Cut it, or you have two kickstands and you switch them when you switch the wheels?

Craig at http://www.motoxparts.co.nz/ was most excellent in helping me out, piston kit $248 to my door. i think he ordered a few extras as there seems to be a quite a few XRs floating around.

I cut 30mm out of mine and welded the original end on.......not too bad with original wheels.

Those guys did the re-sleeve of the XT, and a bloody nice job of it they did too, I can't remember the exact cost but they suplyed the piston kit too for a reasonable price

They good alrite mate, i was looking all over the net mainly at the states for pistons etc, but these guys had them slightly cheaper and i got no credit card so the good old kiwi cash or bank deposite is primo for me, they got the good stuff to like - JE and Wossner pistons, wossner a top of the line from germany(factory race teams use them) .
For a kit from honda is around $350 for a multi batched cast piston ....
