Gentlemen, could you be so kind as to tell me if the 1986s Xr250r and Xr600r's wheels are identicle (well any other parts for that matter). Someones wrecking one tardeme and Eddieb's thread has put me off changing tyres forever. So I plan to waltz them to me local shop and have a set of duals (road n trails) and just switching when needs arise.
Ive trawled for a microfiche to no avail, read a few nightmares from the motard threads about swapping rims etc, just not good reading for the mechanically inept.
So cheers for any help setting up me new hobby the DB riders have finally worn me down, so tentative steps into adventure riding at first.

Good on you Fred finally all that harping has paid off.

I wouldn't have a clue LoC i could only asume they would be the same except the axle size on the 250 might be smaller and possibly a narrower profile on the rim..... maybe measure up your axle and hub width etc and get the seller to do the same.
ive wanted two sets of rims but when ever any come up ive never got the coin![]()

Well scouring the net for a "what fits my bike" thread came up with jack squat, so looks like I'm gunna have to do it myself, what seems clear is items with different OEM part numbers can still be physically identicle and vice versa. BUT theirs a wealth of knowledge out there I need to collate, so a serious cut n paste session might be in order!

Which thread is that?
It's not that big a deal once you have the hang of it but in the long run I found I settled on a compromise tyre and just rode that tyre most the year round, only changing for very special occasions. That was on the Transalp first time round.
Now with the DR I do have two sets of rims and while yes that is a big bonus I eventually couldn't be arsed changing wheels every weekend either.
Just remember find your focus and get a tyre to suit. When we last spoke you only wanted to do easy gravel to start with so almost any tyre would be fine for that but I don't remember how many sealed km's you were expecting to mix in with the gravel.
If there's going to be a lot of seal or you really want to be able to hang on to seal in the corners then that's going to affect your choices.
J and I must come up for another visit soon, we've missed a whole season now and we're limited to 4 wheeled travel again in 5 more weeks for several months thanks to the cost of REG's and the fact I want to filter some money aside to finally do some suspension work on the bikes.

Just been reading the thread about the cool tools... I'd say a bead breaker from T7 (I got one and give it the thumbs up), the 'cool tool' and a small compressor then you'd be set for quick tyre changes at home.

okey dokey heres the deal, i want this other bike and would like to keep the XR cause its f#cking brilliant, But repayments on the loan i am looking at is to high for the short term sooo next possibility is to sell the XR to half the amount borrowed which would make it more affordable and pick up another chook chaser next year when certain things are paid of and finances are a little better. so looking at whats around ie; terdme the piggy's are selling but very slowly so i dont want to play the waiting game on terdme and miss out on this bike so im just throwing some feelers out there to see if anyones interested
