Hey just thought I'd let you know that Geoff {Blackbird} from Coromandel who tipped his Honda over at low speed a couple of weeks ago and badly bruised his leg,told me the doc sent him to Thames hospital for an xray because its taking so long to heal.
Anyway,if you've got some miracle cure or grubby jokes,he'd probably like to hear them on here.

Sorry to hear of your off, damaging at any speed. Get back on as soon as you can. Plenty of rest - leg up on chair plus protein and vit c are good healers. Deep bruising takes ages to come out and by the time you see it, it isn't sore anymore.

Hey, that sucks!
I was amazed at how 'colourful' it was: when my VFR750 was written off by a car u-turning into me, my left leg was squashed between the bike and car, and it wasn't as 'pretty' as that. However, it did take months to come right, and years later I'm still feeling it (pain in my left heel, poorer circulation, very swollen leg after long plane flights).

I hope you heal quickly, Geoff!

Thanks guys, Chooky warned me that he was going to write something so I immediately thought it must be horrible. He must have been taking "nice" pills and I'm touched, haha!

No need for sympathies though thanks, I'd sooner forget the whole thing! After taking advanced riding courses and working hard on good roadcraft, having my boot slide on loose metal whilst turning round in the road and ending up with the lot on top of me is almost too much to bear.

The rainbow hues on my leg shown in the photo on the original post about the accident have almost disappeared after 10 days - apart from my toes still being black, that is! However, my leg is still really swollen and that's what prompted me to get it re-checked at the doctors yesterday.

I almost wish I hadn’t gone! He immediately sent me (with Jennie driving) down to Thames hospital for an x-ray and some tests in case there was the risk of any clots breaking loose. Left Coromandel at 1500 and didn’t get home until 2045, much of which was spent waiting in hospital corridors – a truly unpleasant experience although no complaints about the hospital staff, quite the reverse. In short, no bones broken but I now have to get daily injections (in my stomach – arrrgh…..) to thin my blood ready for an ultrasound later in the week to look for clots (no smart remarks necessary, we all know who and where the Big Clot is located). If the ultrasound finds anything, then I apparently have to take good ‘ol rat poison (Warfarin) for 6 months to break them up. The doctor at the hospital was a young Irish guy that looked like he was on work experience afternoon release from the local high school! Soooo…. really hoping for an early recovery to the extent that I can start riding after Xmas but at this stage, I simply have my fingers crossed.

In less than an hour, the District Nurse (who probably looks like a Russian shot putter) is due to give me another painful injection. Jennie and our daughter will of course treat the occasion as a huge joke!

I think the real message is that no-one is exempt from a bit of grief through momentary inattention and even an "off" at walking pace can have consequences.

Damn what a bummer. Sounds like something I would do though.

just make sure you wrap yourself in cotton wool now... any accidents with blood thinners involved will make for an interesting experience... especially if they thin it too much

I take it they didnt agree that alcohol was good enough to thin your blood, buggar those needles!

Thanks again everyone District nurse has just left and she wasn't a Russian Shot Putter at all - just a nice, middle-aged Coro woman with distinct hippy tendencies. It hurt, but she was so nice that it took some of the pain away

Tomorrow is going to be a whole new ball-game. Nurse Hippy isn't rostered on and it will be Nurse Jane, who lives just across the road from us. I'm now bitterly regretting winding her up from time to time and pulling her husband's leg about his BMW and sidecar! Methinks the syringe is gonna get chucked from halfway across the room

Oh yes.... and moderate alcohol consumption is permitted.... yay!!!!

I wouldn't throw myself under my bike to save it from getting scratched but it does take all types.
Seriously I hope you recover quickly and jack daniels is a great blood thinner!
