    70 km/hr speed limit?

God help us all if this talking head gets listened to:

    http://www.stuff.co.nz/4737549a30.html
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

At 70kph on the open road I see the accident rate going up. All those bored motorists going to sleep.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

That is exactly what has happened everywhere that the speed limit has been dropped. And in those places that have raised the speed limits the accident rate has dropped.

    That's just bloody laughable!

How do they honestly expect people to travel at that speed all the time? Not only would accidents going up but so would road rage. I know living in the country just travelling to work would take me way longer. Screw that!

My god!! how stupid, my road rage would go into over drive along with everyone elses. Its bad enough in the 80km zones with the nanas doing 60km.Well, i spose it would be ok if we were all little nanas in our town cars that are too fricken big for us.

Who the hell comes up with this shit....

    From the article:

"Another feature of Sweden's road safety policy was the proliferation of speed cameras. There are 1000 fixed cameras and police have 25 mobile units that are placed in plain sight to discourage flouting of speed limits."

Unlike the Swedes, the French destroy speed cameras by shooting them!

This might be the only time the likes of Headbanger has admiration for the French.

I thought this was an April fool's joke but I've just checked today's date... And the media publish this drivel too. If we don't speak up in public, like make submissions when we have the opportunity, it's much easier for stupid ideas to become law.

It's a good plan, make them a bit less lucrative.

I like the logic. Aim for a zero road toll by dropping the limit to 70.

If that doesn't work ! Drop it to 50!

and so on, and so on......

The fact that he's connected with Monash University says it all.

I said on another site on the same article a couple of weeks ago... my bike would over heat just trying to get to Palmerston... It seriously hates that speed... I would quickly get bored, and probably have an off just because I lost concentration

70kph is even slower than what it use to before the days of 100kph... it use to be 80kph... and it I remember it use to be a whole day just to get to ChCh from Dunedin. fuck that...

It gets better - looks like the English have copied the French:

A secretive group is dedicated to ripping down, blowing up and even shooting speed cameras. Up and down the UK, the tools used to keep roads safe are being ripped down, blown up and even shot apart as part of a campaign orchestrated by a gang of Web-surfing outlaws. They threaten to become the most popular gang of criminals since Robin Hood and his Merry Men stalked the countryside. Read the Observer article here.
