I've only briefly read about this bike and when i read that it was 3 cylinder i was amazed and wondered exactly how is that possible.
Can someone care to explain?

4 vs 3
I am more freaked out at how 1 cylinder engines don't turn in reverse every now and then.
Surely the question is about balance?
What are the pistons doing? 2 up and down and another 180 degrees out from those? Or are they all 120 degrees out from each other?
And how do they balance the thing? Lumpy bits on the crank? Balance shaft? Does it not need any balancing?
(I don't think Slifer asked a dumb question...)
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.
Heres a bit of a write up about the reasons for going to a triple.

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"
Bowls can wait !
It's a little known fact that all of the Triumph triple range are actually four cylinders. It's just that British workers are so pissed these days the engines keep coming off the assembly line missing a cylinder.
