9. Onto Whariti rd, right to Whariti peak.rough gravel road, easy 4WD track, a bit steep in places. ( 920m high) great views.
10. return to state highway 3, and turn right.
11. Left onto Balance valley road, left onto balance gorge road.

I like option 1 as the views are great.
and sorry Marks but my road names are off my map book, as google maps takes for ever to load on my pc (still on dial up)
Plenty of choices in that area.

i think i better tag along for day 1 havent been round the coast for a long time, see if my mate like to come as well.
We went through little Manahura as part of our Makario track ride a few months ago. It was a firm grass track, slighty bumpy but not rough, was a fun 5 minute interlude on our travels.

Little Manuhara is easy if dry. If wet it's easier going up hill, so may be better starting from the Waihi Valley end.
Option 1 number 9 - do you mean Whariti. I agree, awesome views if you get a fine day.

Looks bloody good, but after many digs at the Southern NI crew to get off their arses & organise a ride... I'm not going to be able to make this one
We're planning to head to the South Is the week after so the 14/15th will have to be spent doing other stuff. Have fun & I expect a full report.
Clint
Just got off the phone with owner at Orongorongo Station south of Wainuiomata at Turakirae Head.
We are CONFIRMED & BOOKED for access across the Station on the coast 4wd track for the morning of Saturday 14th Feb !!!!!!!!!!
Confirmed cost is $15 per head.
It's gonna be a wicked start to the weekend!

Also the owner said if there are any attending on BIG bikes that feel they want to reccie the 4wd coast track to check out the gnarly rocky slide area, they are happy to accomodate a second reccie ride between now and the event. I'd just need to phone them and book that, same cost.
Cheers, Dave

You can get onto google maps and have a look at the rock slide in the satellite pics view - it's bloody BIG

it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

If we all hang a left at the end of Pori Rd we could all follow that route with the 'interesting option' people branching off at the west entrance to the makiro track. That way we'd be doing the makiro the 'right way' and not terrorizing all these bmw riders with thoughts of having to push their bikes up hill in the rutty bits of the east side.
thanks Paul for the suggestions
thats a bummer - will miss you and Rosie
Thanks Dave for all your effort
Just a reminder re accommodation - we'll pretty well fill up the Carterton Holiday Park so get your bums into gear and book a cabin before someone else gets in first.
Those who have booked cabins may want to 'sell off' their extra beds?
