    Maddix Park rocks!

Made the trip over the Kaimais yesterday to Maddix Park, Tauranga to attend the fun day fundraiser for Ben Thomassen. I absolutely fell in love with the place! It had a 16km native bush trail which was awesome and that brought you back onto the motox track which was even better! I asked some of the locals about the place and they said its open 7 days(weather permitting). The address is 465 Rowe Road, Ohauiti, Tauranga.
The number to check for opening and track conditions is - 07 544 2251
There are a couple of fun days over the christmas period there - here a link- enjoy

You wouldn't wanna ride it wet believe me (well i wouldn't haha) Took my old CRF out there ages back when it had been raining the night before. Me, MY bro and mates all went down about 2-3 times on the opening lap, that's how slippery it gets haha.

How was the trail when you did it? Lasdt time I did it she was rutted up big time

yeah open the public $20, TGA club members $15.
in winter the trails are enduro type! clay based, hills, monster ruts. but good now.
The mx track was the full track yesterday. looked mean!! lucky for the rain on sat. night really kept the dust down. otherwise the mx track is very dusty and loose.

Did two cross country races at Maddix last year. Dry Club event for a sneaky practice run before GNCC (although they ran the race course in reverse direction to GNCC), then a wet GNCC. For some reason I found the place hard to get my head around and didn't do too well at either event.

I might stand to be corrected here, but although it looks like clay, I think it much of it might actually be volcanic brown ash and can be surprisingly slippery when wet, plus ash gets rutted up a lot quickler than clay (I still curse that GNCC traffic jam, cost me 25 mins - enough for another lap). It's a really beautiful place though and I'll be back to try again. Native bush quite high up in the hills. Some pics of it when dry (edit - pics are only of the MX track, no pics of bush loop:

That traffic jam was hard case, I couldn't believe that in a middle of a race we were completely stopped engines off just sitting there.

    Maddix park

    Wow!
    Awesome Track
I went up and had a look today. The track is in very good condition. Not too rutted out but just dampened down with little dust.
I'll be back down for some riding on Monday. (was bike-less this time so couldn't check out the bush loops)
If anyone is in the area from monday 29th to jan 1st give me a call.
Keen just to have someone to do the 16km bush loop with.

    cheers

The trail was quite slippery and rutty when I did it(the downhill was hard case!) - bit better the second time round - but the fun I had on the motox track afterwards made up for it x 100!

    Maddix Park.

Spent a couple of mornings there the 31st and the 1st. Even managed being the first bike on the mx track for 2009!

Had an awesome time. Dropped it a couple times in the morning but it had rained the night before. Yes it was real slick in the shady bits.
Did the small 2km ish loop. I see what you mean by the downhill. Like a big slip 'n' slide. Last uphill back up to the mx track was an adveture too.

I couldn't walk too well yesterday as I'm not "dirt bike fit" and used about 5-6 litres fuel.

I was happy with my efforts as I actually left the ground quite alot which is a first time for me on the bike. Not too high by any means but the missus was not impressed at all. Is that a good thing?
