I was told that the Nomad Gang have occupied the Horowhenua Sailing Club building.
I went to have a look, about 3.30 this afternoon, and and saw F.all except a big pile of beers, "FTP (Fuck The Police)" written on the roller door and rubbish at the front of the building.
But I had only been there about 5 minutes, and a van and two cars showed up. They all had Ngati something numberplates, and the fella driving the van had NOMADS on his beanie.
I guess they thought I was the plice, as I have an 07 Holden, (looks like a plice car) and someone in the building had called for reinforcements cos they arrived in a group and did donuts around my car till I thought it was time to go.
The story I was told, is as follows...
Dude from sailing club goes to sail his boat.. gets a hiding 'cos apparently you need to get permission from maori to use a boat here. Dude calls cops who arrest the maori fella doing the enforcing.
Maori enforcer gets bail, then him and his mates occupy the sailing club building.
Cops get called but don't do anything (too scared ?)
So, even though he has clearly been guilty of breaking and entering, his bail remains. So much for tough on crime.
Rescue boat gets flogged, and is recorded on camera, being towed by Nomads through Otaki.
Cops get called but, you guessed it, don't seem to be able to help right now, sorry.
So club members show up, and try to get a few items from the club rooms. Cops show up, but maori tell cops to wait outside, so they do.
He also told me that dogs are banned from the park, and the council have a "no tolerance" policy on unregistered dogs. But the maori gang have dogs there as protection, and guess what - council declined to have a look.
The local paper were there on Saturday... but so far no report in the paper.
So looks like the sailers will have to whistle this summer.
Except for the first bit, I didn't see this happen, but I know the guy who told me very well, and I trust his version of events.
