What would you feel fair to pay.

Folks I've been talking to some folks about creating a FAMILY offroad area in Mangawhai.
It will consist of 3 loops.
1 being about 900m long throgh grass for beginners.
For example first time riders and kids on quads.
The second being 1.7km long with a mixture of corners bumps, and straights. this is through forest and grassland This would suit kids with some riding experience (and not so young kids)
The third loop is a bit more chalenging again going down and up some steeper hills and bigger corners. it looks to be around a 6km loop
This would suit kids with reasonable riding experience
It will be STRICTLY for the use of FAMILIES. to stop the weekend warriors from coming in and scaring the kids (and the land owners) . AND numbers per day limited to 30 riders on any one day.
What would you guys feel a fair price to pay for this would be?
I'm working real hard to sell the concept to my dad and mum because its their land so dads going to have to be the one driving the tractor round.

Frosty, what are the implications with regard to Health and Safety if you charge people for it?

Awesome idea, I just don't to see you getting pinged if something happens.

mully--Yea I thought of that--which is why it would be payment by way of donation.
My dad is over the moon that people are using his land for some form or recreation.
BUT hes retired and stuff like clearing the trails and cleaning up at end of weekend would still cost him something.
Its just an idea at this stage. I just see that theres less n less riding areas and from what i'm told the "big boys" can scare the beejeebers out of the kids

Sounds a great idea Frosty, maybe have a look on Silver Bullet (whatever the website name is) and see what is charged for families at trail rides and then sort out your price to suit.

not wanting to be a kill joy here but you may want to have a look at what the council restrictions are on use, i know here in franklin you do not need a consent for less than 6 events a year if there are less than 500 people attending, every council is slightly different,

there is some leeway for personal use but with trailers turning up every weekend it only takes one busy body to cause a whole lot of shit,

as for what its worth, i think $10 per bike is really pretty cheap, depends on the track work etc that goes on, sometimes a key charge and limiting who uses it may be a better idea, and then everyone needs to do some work out their,

have a look what other bike park's charge,

give me a pm or phone call if you want any advice, i deal with this stuff a fair bit and know how to get around some rules, sometimes you need the right answers to get rid of people,

Having been up there a couple of days ago I can honestly say it is an awesome spot and would make for a great venue. The only downside I see is the distance travelled to get there (no different from any other 'event' I guess) so the price would have to be attractive enough to be an incentive. If there was an allowance to camp the night it would be an absolute winner. The few minutes drive to the beach is another awesome attraction because that beach would have to be one of the best I've been to in NZ. White white sand, nice rollers coming in and hardly any people!!
Regarding a tarriff, I dunno but if it was a membership driven club would that get around restrictions surrounding public usage?
Oh and just to leave with a bit of cheek, I put forward that the people who help with the slashers (I volunteer) get an honorary membership and a discount on the surcharge

I think the idea that Scott had about keys would be good. You could have an annual donation for a family key. Limit the number of keys and then let people use it whenever they want (obviously closing it when it is to wet etc). This could also allow people to camp there (being a limited number of key holders), having a sign on area so if someone doesn't clean up after themselves you know who it was. The mose important thing would be to "select" the families (about 99% should be great families) to eliminate those that would abuse the use of the park.

Also along with the keys you could arrange working bees (as part of getting a key) a few times a year so everyone can go up and help out the clearing of the track and other odd jobs needed. That way it will reduce the workload on your parents.
