    Assumptions

Assumptions are made by those that think they know, but really only have a small piece of evidence to go on while they paint the whole picture as it really happened

Why people continue to voice their opinoins on what the hell happened and why, yesterday in the South Island is beyond me to be honest

    I digress...

While heading home North yesterday, traffic was back up to the Satellite Staion south of Warkworth. I didnt really care, I was on the bike, time to jump into the oncoming lane (where possible) and make my way north in a safe manner, in the oncoming lane as it was not that busy heading South. All the time keeping a keen eye on whats coming so I can jump to the left when I need too. I was never (at any stage) that far into the south bound lane at any on time, no need to be. I saw this red van coming and pulled back close to the North bound traffic (very slow moving cars) maybe I was just on the white lines? but this van actually came closer to me than I care for, and made the point of horn blasting at me....he could have move slightly to his left if he felt he was on a collision track with me. This is where the 'Assumption' comes in....I would imagine that, the other road users assumed that I was the twat in this case, when in actual fact, I was indeed being a safe road user.

i know what you mean about this safe overtaking stuff.

most vehicles will see you and actually move over a bit and make your life easier..........theres just the odd dickhead trying to teach us riders a lesson we don't need to be taught.

I was overtaking a long queue the other day including a 4wd with big tandem trailer. (note the traffic really jammed, very slow, in 50kmh area) when trailer guy speeds up to repass me and pulls towards me cutting me off as he did so.

i had no choice but to back right off and pull out of his way.........couldn't speed up as he was jamming me into other vehicles................

anyway as long as we are wise all will be well.........sure beats being stuck in a traffic jam

Not a possibility when you are overtaking....which essentially is what I was doing at the time. But may have been looked upon differently by the slow moving car drivers, I dont care about that so much....its the 'Assumption' that is made after the fact, that I am pointing out.

Doing things right and safely is good but even then, on our best behaviour, trying to make safe progress, the buggers will still hunt you down and mess you up.

Coming to the end of a small town yesterday in a fifty zone, doing fifty,in the middle of my lane. The 100k sign is looming large about 300 metres away, when I noticed a white car swerving from side to side behind me. I interpret this as an impatient bastard trying to find a way around me cause in his/her opinion I should be doing 100k by now despite kids trying to cross and joining traffic ahead.

I guess this, woman, as it happens, was very important because taking 5 seconds off her journey was worth risking her, mine, and a few pedestrians lives as she whisked past about six inches off my right hand side, crossing the centre line into oncoming traffic and on collision course with the kids, two of which ran for cover.

Come the 100 zone and she's smug as, cause she's managed to get her rusty pile of crap up to about 65 now and about 1 nanosecond later the naughty gentleman biker, father of seven and lover to thousands, glides on by on a whiff of throttle.

So there we have it, a pointless stupid and dangerous episode that achieved absolutely bugger all apart from simultaneously scaring the bejesus out of about ten people. Lord give me strength.
    Oh bugger
