You’ve got a UAV? Way cool manhas it got missiles and stuff too? Huh? Huh?
Hey hang on, how could you be IN the thing – the U being for UNMANNED and all? Oh well, carry on …
Ummm … Helicopter perhaps?I haven’t heard of that make of helicopter. Are they Chinese? You should have blown the bugger out of the sky with one of your misslesOops, sorry to keep interrupting, carry on …Must have been busy in the skies up your way today, couldn’t it just fly over or under you?Oh I get it, it must have been really cloudy and you’re only qualified for Visual Flight Rules. Sorry, do go onRoad? Now you’ve lost me!
What was the manoeuvre? Barrel roll perhaps? Damn tricky in a helicopter that one
: There’s some pretty dodgy pilots out there it would seem too.
You meant SUV didn’t you! Still I guess you assumed I’d know what you were on about, sorry didn’t have the foggiest old chap.
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!
Exactly. It's pretty hard to avoid making them on the internet - if we were unable to make assumptions to the best of our judgement, most of the threads on this site would consist solely of the opening post.
If we actually go back to his opening post where he says "I would imagine that, the other road users assumed that I was the twat in this case, when in actual fact, I was indeed being a safe road user.", we see that he believes that it was a safe thing to do - and therefore assuming that the "other road users" were wrong in their assessments of the manuevre. Even though he was there, he's still only working off his own side of the story - he's assuming that there wasn't a legimate reason that the van wanted to move away from lefthand side of their own lane.
And judging by what he's posted in the social group as well, I must assume that either my other post was correct or he's just trolling. Neither of which would overly surprise me (maybe I'm just too much of a cynic).

Well said Mystic13. Wise words indeed.
I mean if you're going to assume you could also assume that he was in a bit of a day dream on a pretty much deserted road tootling North when "Shit... there's a bike on my side of the road... WTF, I wasn't expecting that" maybe said bike moves over but he is fixated on this bike (still being a little freaked out to see oncoming traffic in his lane) so he fixates on the bike and toots his horn to say "Dude you really freaked me out - you know I'm not really expecting someone to be riding toward me... can you please not do that!". And of course he doesn't know about object fixation as we do and doesn't realise the van is actually turning toward you because that's where he's looking.
I do know that bike riders experience things a little differently. The cage dwellers can get a little glazed over. I know i can when in the car.
In defence of car drivers
- they are largely unconsciously aware of bikes unless they ride bikes.
- they do not appreciate the speed at which we accelerate and we just seem to come from nowhere. We have blistering acceleration.
- there distance judgement and vehicle movement calculation isn't set for bikes going quickly.
Bike riders assume
- that car drivers should be aware of the above.
- often seem to assume when passing a car late before a corner that they can do it if they have sufficient time to complete the pass even if a car comes around the corner. From many riders I've spoken to not many factor in "what if it's a bike that comes around the corner". I can tell you now if it's a bike going quickly that room you thought you had will be much shorter. Just out of curiosity how many here factor in "what if it's a bike going quickly coming around the corner?"
- that we have a right to perform at the speeds and level of acceleration we do even though other road users may not be able to process that.
Have you ever had the bike that comes out of nowhere and shoots past very close to you. This is what many car drivers experience. I wonder if it would be useful to start realising the dangers we impose on other road users because of the shear performance of our machines.
Them's me thoughts.[/QUOTE]
