Saw in another thread that the new rules for learner (or proposed changes), and presumably restricted riders are that anything between 250 and 650 with less than a 150kw per kilotonne power-weight ratio is eligable to legally ride. So for anyone who may know : Does this mean a zx6 for example, tuned down to the regulations, will be legal? Or does the bike need to come from the factory with that limit??

The zx6 doesn't come close to meeting regs stock, and often wasn't permitted under exemptions either.

Interestingly a Honda VTR 250 isn't on the list and even allowing for a 60K rider a 139Kg bike is only allowed 29.8hp so it also fails the 150Kw per tonne limit.

Yet teh VTR 250 is almost universally recommended as one of the best learner friendly learner bikes by expecerienced motorcyclists and motorbike shops.

The 'list' is an Australian one, so one can expect some anomolies as to certain models.
Good point tho, as a law/rule is only as good as the way it is written.
I believe the intent is that all 250s (and under) EXCEPT for named 2 stroke models are allowed PLUS the named larger capacity bikes.

three years ago, two years ago, last year........... ie. don't even think about it, it will happen one day, but I don't see it being in anyway soon.

was just thinking about this actually.....
does the learner expiry thing take effect at the same time? I've been on my learners for like 3 years and need to get around to doing my restricted/works too busy to do it during the week. HAs the bill been passed to drop people like me off the edge of the spectrum yet?

A 90kg rider is factored into the weight of the bike, hence ZXRs, CBRs, RGs etc are still legally under the limit whilst the RGVs and NSRs are over.

Nope. The laws of averageness say that a guy is 90kg and a girl is 70kg. Your actual weight matters not a whit. Same as when you fly.

So your saying that i'm above "average"? lol I think that average weight should be raised.......I mean, i'm sure now that the average weight would be clser to 100?
