    Lightbulb Gearbox conversion?

    Hello!

Bit of a bizarre project in mind, and though this may be an appropriate place to get a few ideas/ opinions.

I have this made idea of a front wheel drive, Harley driven mini.

What I put forward to anyone reading this thread is; would I be able to happily adapt a front wheel drive gearbox to a V-Twin? Aside from the obvious fabrication issues and ratio problems is there anything else that you think I may encounter.

    All input welcome!

    Cheers

HOW ya gonna mount the motor ? long ways or east west ? why not just use the harley box and have a reverse off a starter motor ? have seen bike engined rear drive mini's

Ideally would like to mount it east west, but so far it looks like the only practical way is gunna be long ways. When you say run a reverse off the starter how do you mean?

Gearbox for the mini is IN the sump and protrudes for the diff to reach wheels.

I'd gladly run it RWD but that would involve making a belt tunnel and rear axle to match.

Certification, and associated costs may scuttle your plans, ask silly questions at a testing station somewhere...

    Cheers, links are handy.

Cost isn't a problem, I considered my posts quite relevant. But perhaps i missunderstood what forums were for. Noone force you to read or reply to this thread.

Testing stations will put you in contact with the necessary certification engineers... they will tell you what you can or can't do... legally...

Heres a company in the UK that make conversion kits.
Might help you with a few ideas and I see they have an electric reverse kit aswell which could help.

i still think ditch the mini box, mount the harley east west,
fit universal to out put shaft, then mate up to drive shaft,
and fabricate rear suspension andyou can fit a cog to the drive shaft that is engaged by a startermotor with a matching cog fitted for reverse

is there any reason you want to keep it front wheel drive.
you would probably have wicked torque steer with drive only through 1 wheel

what are you going to use it for ??

That harley lump is going to get awfull hot under the hood, maybe something liquid cooled would be better? Would definately ditch the gearbox and go with a kit car sprocket to UJ coupling. Who needs reverse if its light enough to push?
I love the smell of twin V16's in the morning..
