    Insane price increase, 2009 650r

How does a price go from $11k:
    http://www.kawasaki.co.nz/kawasaki_c...650A8F&do=list
    To $13.3k:
    http://www.kawasaki.co.nz/kawasaki_c...650C9F&do=list

$2300 is a lot to increase by, the naked bike is $3300 cheaper...
    http://www.kawasaki.co.nz/kawasaki_c...650A8F&do=list

As much as I prefer the 2009 bike, isn't this a bit excessive?
In the states it went from $6499 to $6799 which is understandable.

Pretty fair, you must remember NZ is a barely even noticeable slice of the pie of the bikes sold.

This is true. I suppose its the crap exchange rate the moment rather than the previous model actually being more expensive to make or whatever.

Eh? That what's that got to do with anything in terms of price adjustment from year to year.

I mean I know its got new fairings but it's still just a er6f and the er6n remains unchanged at $10k

That mean that the prices will drop when the rate of exchange "improves"?

This is the thing, I doubt it will.
    6,799.00 USD = 11,495.07 NZD
So a price change is understandable I guess. Lets wait for it to improve and see what happens.

Have you guys actually been noting what the exchange rate has done over the past nine months?

At an exchange rate of 0.82 to the USD, a US$15,000 bike is worth NZ$18,300 (approx).

At an exchange rate of 0.57 to the USD, a US$15,000 bike is worth NZ$26,300 (approx).

I doubt the wholesalers are going to trim their margins much, so these $500 or so upward movements are just the beginning of what will be considerable upward movements. Ye cannae change the laws of physics, Jim.

The last of the Honda Hornet 900's went out last year at a reduced price of$11,000.

I've seen a dealer selling a used 08 model with (only) 2,500kms on it for $11,500.

Talking to a chap from a bike shop yesterday, apparently Yamaha have put their prices up 5% across the board and is expecting the the rest of the big four will follow so we'll see in time I guess, had to happen though.

I've got gold skull valve caps on the Hornet - would it's value increase if I went to red?

Have they released the price of the 09 model ER-6N? It looks like the big K is gonna be hard pressed to compete with Suzuki with these sort of price changes.

The exchange rates are pretty screwed because it happens to be poor when the new models are coming out. Even if it improves half way through the year, the importers/wholesalers will have already ordered the initial stocks at a crap rate, so they're not going to drop the price next spring with the next batch of bikes. They'll try and recoupt some of their losses.

If it was a $3000 better bike then sweet, but the main reason the 650 was so popular was the price.
