    Motorcycles are dangerous

    Bollocks!

All this talk about motorcycles being inherently dangerous just reflects our wimpy modern attitude to life.

Yes, riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than driving a car, which is more dangerous than walking, which is more dangerous than sitting on the couch, which is more dangerous than .... and so on ...

But, on the flip side, riding a motorcycle is safer than climbing Everest, which is safer than Russian roulette, which is safer than skydiving without a parachute which is safer than ... and so on ...

It's all a matter of perspective. Life in NZ today is a LOT safer than it has been at times in the past. On the danger scale of history motorcycling doesn't even rate.

    true

    very true

Motorcycles are no more dangerous than a loaded gun, It aint dangerous at all.

Now a person with a loaded gun is a different matter, as is SOME people on a motorcycle.

It is all in the way you use the tool.
If you say either "I can" or "I can't" your correct.

I'm not famous in my circle of my friends as someone who cares much about his state of health.
FUCK YEAH MY BIKE IS BLACK!
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

You neglected to mention that life has a 100% mortality rate.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

with 4m people in NZ and say an avg max age of 80, about 50,000 must be popping off annually (for all reasons but mostly heart disease or cancer apparently) - the road toll has to be a small % of that and bikes are a fraction of that again

but like all statistics it depends what answer was wanted when asking the question, for instance:

aircraft safety statistics are based on per passenger mile, so as planes get bigger and journeys longer they get safer as a matter of course ...

    Of course Motorcycles are dangerous.
If it wasn't dangerous I wouldn't do it.

    I beg to differ.
    Motorcycles are NOT dangerous.
I have never heard of anyone being attacked by a motorcycle...

A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

The child mortality rate is virtually nil. Small families are the norm because we know our offspring are more than likely to survive to become adults.

A few notable cases of child murder have been made into a media circus. Tragic though they are they are isolated cases and not indicative of the population as a whole.

Everything is relative - I believe motorcycles are dangerous.

The laws of Physics and Gravity are immutable so is the biology of human tissue. And so is the potential for stupidity in any large number of people/drivers.

I stop to consider just how dangerous it is regularly and adjust attitudes accordingly.

The benefits outweigh the dangers. Heat - kitchen.

In which case pussycats are more dangerous than motorcycles - I was attacked by a cat once...thought it was "tame"...yeah. right.

I agree with everything you say.

However, there seems to be a perception, even among bikers, that merely hopping on a bike is an act of bravery (or stupidity to some). I think a bike is like any other potentially lethal device - it can be as safe or as dangerous as you make it. A bike is only more dangerous than, say, a car because a higher skill level is required to operate it properly.
