Motorcycles are dangerous
Bollocks!
All this talk about motorcycles being inherently dangerous just reflects our wimpy modern attitude to life.
Yes, riding a motorcycle is more dangerous than driving a car, which is more dangerous than walking, which is more dangerous than sitting on the couch, which is more dangerous than .... and so on ...
But, on the flip side, riding a motorcycle is safer than climbing Everest, which is safer than Russian roulette, which is safer than skydiving without a parachute which is safer than ... and so on ...
It's all a matter of perspective. Life in NZ today is a LOT safer than it has been at times in the past. On the danger scale of history motorcycling doesn't even rate.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin (1706-90)
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending to much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
"Motorcycling is not inherently dangerous. It is, however, EXTREMELY unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence and stupidity!" - Anonymous
