Yep, mine has had all the nasty environmental mods removed. I think there is still something not quite right with the jetting as it is difficult to start when warm.

Well Matt had them in the shop and he seemed pretty keen on them.
I have dealt with him for a few years one way or another and he's always been fairly straight up with me.

In fact his after sales service for this bike has been excellent.

    What was the drama?

the kiwi rider demo txc250 went in for a service befpre the hawkes bay 6 hour, the 2 neild bros did 1 and a half laps before the engine chenobyled, due to the oil filter being put in back to front. it cost them the race. the importer pulled it down and found the oil filter problem,
and personally i have no time for them, one of them is a arrogant tosser, but thats my opinion,

There is still an 08 down at MCR in Dunedin for $9995. Nowhere near as good a deal as the 07s at $7995 but still pretty sharp.

This is a really nice bike and seems overlooked by many people in the stampede to their local KTM dealer. Hell, I almost did that myself (came close to buying an 08 KTM250EXC with 80 hours on it for more than the Husky was brand new).

    Any problems with yours chop/Paulus?

    pros & cons etc?

Found out that there are 2x new WR250 2008's available in auckland, also a 2007. and obviously a few 09's.

Currently using my old mans 200EXC for a couple of races but he'll be back soon so I have to get my own bike :P

There's a 2009 250EXC which has done 20 hours which I could possibly get for the same price as a new WR250 08.

Not sureee what to dooo. Gotta sell my YZ250 first though..

Much better trail bike than my last bike (Honda CR250R).

Some minor teething problems - to be expected I guess. Seemed to be a crack in the swingarm but we removed it and tested it carefully and it was a deep scratch only (I have access to materials testing labs at work). Would have been warrantied if it was cracked but no problem in the end.

My race pipe had a restrictor welded into it. Once that was removed she flies. Still haven't got the jetting sorted completely - I'm now on a 32.5 pilot and it still feels a little rich. 400 main and 60 needle (3rd clip down) aren't bad and give a tan plug reading.

Worst part of the bike would be the seat height. I'm 1.82m tall and I find it too high. I'm running 110mm sag and have the forks 30mm above the top clamp and this keeps good steering and allows me to get feet down easily.

Bike is light and engine punchy. Suspension seems pretty good, the handling is quick and the brakes are strong. I really like the ergos (except the seat height). Lots of other little things are well thought out (airbox access for instance). Carb and spark plug are super easy to get to. Bike needs a bash plate and rad guards but these are easily sourced from Australia. Mine is road legal (but is a lousy road bike obviously). It looks beautiful in red and white (not that this really matters) - very stylish and gets noticed everywhere it goes. Also the 2 year warranty for a competition bike is almost unheard of.

Pity they didn't fit it with a 6 speed box as it could use a higher top gear. KTM is in the same boat here - only Gas Gas gives you a 6 speed. Apparently the old WR360 6 speed almost falls right in if you have one (which I don't). Few little gremlins in the speedo unit too - the odometer keeps resetting itself. At least the hour meter holds its numbers. Thιre'll be a lot of high hour low mileage bikes around!

I like it and given the choice would buy it again. If you can still get an 07 for $7995 then grab it quickly. The 2008 has very little changed but the 2009 has slightly better forks and a vforce 3 reed block. In 09 you also have the choice of the WR300. Can't go wrong with the KTM either though - there's really no wrong choice to make.
