For a pal looking to come over to do the race

I'm after info on the Sounds of Thunder meeting at Ruapuna next year in Feb.
What size crowds do they get and , just how big is it.

Couldn't tell you the crowd size but I would say only Wanganui, Paeora and Classic festival would be bigger
At one stage it was the biggest Motorcycle event in Australasia
The BEARs club organise the classes so you can normally cross enter (depending on bike) and do a shit load of racing over the 2 days along with cheap/free practice on the Friday
I've been racing around 12-14 years in a variety of classes on 2,3 and 4 wheels and the Sound of Thunder is with out a doubt the best meeting I have competed at
If he comes over and does it I doubt he will ever regret it
I last raced it about 3 years ago but TonyB, Flame or Drew would be able to give you info on more recent meetings

This is probably the best advert I can find for the BEARS Sound Of Thunder at Ruapuna. 2008 is what I could consider to be a rather quiet year on the spectator front as well.

The great thing about the SoT is that everyone there is a genuine motorcycle enthusiast. They're not just speed freaks into the latest models and not much else.
its a good weekend of racing, a few spills etc but mostly good hard clean racing.
spectators are down a bit but that is because event organizers try to cream off the extra people coming to town for BEARS by putting on lots of other entertainment.
it would certainly be a good weekends experience for him![]()
Hey I'm in some of those vids! Bizzare!
Its an awesome event- my favourite of the year. There are a few guys that come over from Oz each year. If you want I could find out who they are and your mate could get in touch with them. I'm pretty sure last year there were two guys on Buells from a team sponsored by an Aussie magazine...I think....
I started a thread here with all the entry forms
My daughter telling me like it is:"There is an old man in your face daddy!"
