I'm with Swann and paying about $50 a month. Mine are a bit higher as I wrote off a bike in a crash back in May last year. I was with State initially but seeing as I wrote a bike off on my learners they wouldn't insure me again till I got my restricted and I'd just got a new bike so I went with Swann. Excess is a bit high, $1500 but that will drop by $500 in a few days when I turn 25.

After being with State for nearly 30 years, I realised they were rubbish, and didn't care if I was a long-term, loyal customer. So I switched to AMI. After a few years, I realised they weren't going to cut me any deals on my bike insurance even though I had house, contents, and four (4!) MV policies. So, I shopped around and came up with an excellent deal for my VFR through Kiwibike Insurance which made both State and AMI look really rubbish.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Dunno what I am doing wrong... but I'm 25, over a year of history (no claims), little under $100 a month, but the bike is insured for 24 odd k at the moment.

I do have a "special excess" due to carelessly misplacing my license for 3 months tho , otherwise the excess is only $500 or something.

I found out that state has only recently stopped giving out policies to any rider with a learners license. But they will accept restricted licenses and above.

Having said that, yesterday I got four quotes from various insurance companies.
And I am (very) happily now with medical assurance, which gave me the best excess/premium. They are very nice people to deal with, and I have the knowledge that they are in the top bracket when it comes to dealing with claims (AMI + Medical Assurance and another company).

That premium from State sounds pretty good. I went through NZI, over 25 on Learners, My other half is through NAC (All 3 are the same parent company). His Claims service was excellent. I am in the industry though, so it is possible that helped a bit.

That will change again if and when compulsory insurance comes in...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. AMI suck with their claims service and have little understanding of customer service!

One thing that I found annoying when i was looking for quotes, most of the big name insurance companies put huge excesses because I am under 25 and on a learners licence. They dont really look at the drivers history alot.

Oh well, i guess they are trying to run a business.

O.o;;; Weeeelll....I think the lady I was speaking to put me down as Restricted... don't ask me why... I told her I was learner...I do have a restricted car licence though, which she asked about...maybe she got them confused? Either way, happy.

Glad I did it, though, haha. Had an accident on monday... Lucky for me it's only my groin that suffered any damage on my end. The woman's car on the other hand has a nice, wheel-patterned dent in her rear bumper...

Don't ask me why they pulled up so sudden, but I looked down for a second, next thing I know, the brakes are on full and I still hit her. I'll see if it's worth losing my No Claims bonus or not, but I don't have to pay excess...

Be careful there, if you do have a big money accident and the insurance company find out you are not actually on the license you have stated in your policy (which they will!!), they are free to tell you, politely of course, to go and get fucked.

I'm with classic cover and pay about $600 per year for 13.5K full cover on my 1250 bandit with a $500 excess so not too bad, John Baker insurance is pretty good to.

I'm on my learners, full coverage, under 25.
Don't know what I'm paying but have a $900 excess or thereabouts...

It's like half the worth of the bike haha.

$900 is not too bad, I got one quote for $1250 excess.
But I am now at a happy $500 excess for a learners under 25 etc .
